I have to agree with "StudentOfLife."
I drove OTR for a while, until I realized the true situation I was in. Truck drivers are treated not much better than entry level immigrant farm workers. I live in CA where even these farm workers are treated better than most of us truckers. They get minimum wage, even more, after a while, and over-time, even though they are Ag workers.
I have talked to some of them who get promoted and supervise a group of their buddies-get to drive forklifts and make more than $20 an hour! I know of one white fork lift driver who earns over $27 an hour! A forklift driver! This guy is making a hell of a lot more than any truck driver I know..... I realize that fuel Truckers do make real good money-even some other chemical haulers...but they are the exception to the rule!
All of us Truckers need to unite and put our collective feet down and tell our bosses that we are not gonna take it any more! It has start some where....why not here?
I know it sounds like I am talking big, but I have seen enough drivers get burned so badly-get so discouraged-then they start bad mouthing the entire trucking industry!
I drove for an OTR company, and I was treated very well, but an average of $8.95 (.32 a mile) an hour does not cut it! I took a crappy local job just so I could at least make a decent hourly wage. All of you OTR truckers need unite, get yourselves a representative to speak for you, then strike! I would drive OTR if I could get paid decently!
You are all being ripped off! Most drivers just do not do the math to see what really is going on. Once I did that, I saw the "light."
Any body with me?
