    All this above!

The rule was, and always is, "speed is not your friend."
THe only time that waiting is not good is when there was double or triple the time needed.

What you need to do is show the tester you are confident and capable. Not that you are a 20 year veteran.

The same with pretrip. Be confident and show that you are knowledgeable.

That sucks - I thought if you passed the pre-trip and yard maneuvers then failed the road test, you ONLY had to retake the road test?

Must be one of those 'varies from state to state' situations.

    Best of luck next time.

i will always remember of this.....

just after i get my driving license my father need to teach me some important things

i loaded 4axle tipper with about 90000lbs and go .....on first intersection i had to turn right

here we have very narrow streets and you always need more than one lane for turning

on main road was 4axle concrete mixer he had to turn left ( in my street)

there was no more cars on road just me and him and some others behind him

and i started my father told me stop you cant go i says i can i can and i start that mixer start and i my last right tire climb little bit on curb

he stand up from seat slapped me like here

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7YMOSoKDOg[/ame]

and says you just ruin my tire .....and from that i always check things 2-3 times before i do anything

btw tire was not damaged although i had nearly 30000lbs on that axle

This is how my testing went. Mind you in Ohio you have to wait 1 week between tests.

First time I passed the pre-trip very easily and then failed in the yard all because I wasn't far enough away from the cones to pull of an ally dock. I pointed out in the span of maybe 2 minutes. I couldn't help but laugh at myself after that one we all had a nice laugh about it.

Next time I get the parallel park and pass by I think 2 pts or something. I had used both my get outs already and wasn't even close to having the truck in but somehow I pulled farther forward the last time and it went in perfectly just like it was supposed to.

Now here is the fun part. I get to the road test I think everything is going great. All of the hard turns im making sure I go wide so I am not near the curbs. There are a couple turns on the test route where if there are cars in the left turn lane you can't make the turn there were no cars at those turns. I thought I was doing great get back to the test site I think I got this no problem at all. We sit there for a minute and the guy starts tallying up my score.

Im thinking why is he taking so long he tells me I failed after like 5 mins. I had 33 pts and you can only have 30 to pass. I was stunned and he tells me it was cause I was palming the wheel. I thought palming the wheel was something completely different so I never thought to think I was doing something wrong.

Next time I go I only have to do the road test mind you this is after another week of driving around. So this time I am informed that a state trooper will be riding along with us on my test. I thought ok no big deal but I had this idea that the examiner was going to be extra hard. I got ZERO points for palming the wheel so I fixed that but I got like 16 pts or something for mid intersection traffic checks. I learned you have to look out the other window while you are in the middle of a turn. I wasn't told that before so that it is what destroyed me that time. Again I hit no curbs I thought my driving again was good and he tells me I failed by 1 pt. I got 31 pts and failed by 1 point. I'm thinking maybe truck driving just isn't for me at this point.

I think I drove good enough to pass but I am just guessing since the highway patrol guy was there I was being graded extra strict.

Anyway after another week of waiting around I go back for my 3rd time and I have the guy who failed me the first time. I made sure not to do the things I did the first 2 times to fail and I passed easily with I think 17 pts. I was getting most of my points for short and wide turns because some of the turns you can't make unless you take them wide so there is no way to drive the route without accumulating some amount of points.

I was very frustrated because I was the only person to ever point out on the road test 2 times before passing. It is I guess almost unheard to point out on the road test without automatically failing. So I accomplished something twice that nobody had ever seen. I am glad I have my CDL now but it obviously could have gone easier but I know I am a better driver because I learned from my mistakes.

Good luck next time you take it!!!

A word to the wise. Find out where the test is, go a day early with a big bag of 10 inch spikes and nail down them pesky curbs so they can't jump out in front of your tires.... or.... nail up a bunch of official looking No Right Turn signs. :biggrin_25523:

Yep SC sucks! I had to everything all over again. If I only had to do the roadtest I'll have my cdl yesterday, there was no way I was going to bump that curb again. But whatever I need to work on this alley dock abit more.

What school did you go through? If they really didn't teach you about hills they are screwing up royally. Can imagine some of their drivers are the ones at the bottom of the hill in an accident because they lost their brakes trying to stop the entire way down.
