Alternator is overcharging. Took it and had it tested & it came back as bad according to the generator shop. Bought a reman and it was still overcharging......took it back and exchanged for another reman from Peterbilt (Delco-Remy 5SI series)....hooked up the "smart sense" terminal and it still overcharges.....just past 15 volts. It turns the light on in the guage, dash goes blank, no turn signals......until the voltage drops below 15.....then things work normally for a brief period. WHAT ELSE CAUSES AN OVERCHARGING CONDITION IF THE ALTERNATOR HAS ALREADY BEEN REPLACED??? I'm stumped. It"s a 2006 Pete with a C15 Cat. Thank you.

bad voltage regulator, bad alternator wiring, especially voltage regulator grounding

Its the 2nd alternator..... First was on for 1 day....figured bad reman 2nd reman alt doing the same thing. Someone said that when the original alt went bad, it ruined the batteries so a new alt will still overcharge.

Didn't know batteries would get stuck after being over charged and stay like that. Most chicken trucks got a problem of undercharging and throw on a second alternator. I say throw on a bunch of chicken light to bring that voltage down. Lol. Just joking, dunno how to solve your problem.

Take a volt meter and see what your batteries telling you.

I dunno. Some of these guys got lights one right next to each other. Top rail, bottom rail, under carriage, breather lights, interior lights, lights where you couldn't even think of. The alternator will only produce enough what it's rated for. If you go over it you bet ya gonna need another one.

If you know other wise let me know I'm here to listen and learn.

Changed alt again, 4 new batteries......still charging close to 15 with no load.....put lights on, a/c......around 14.6 at idle. My 2007 pete is 14.2 no load and 13.8 with lights on & a/c......with no issues. I'm losing my patience.

Check your old batteries with a volt meter?

Maybe the pulley size is different? Is it the same size as your originals pulley?
