if you work for them at night u will be ok. the day shift is too much waiting to get loaded. too many drivers trying to get loaded and you have to sit and wait your turn. and the gas stations during the day, the rude ### people don't care about you. they will run over hoses, your cones, etc... night time you really don't have to worry about it, just have to worry about somebody walking up on you. we had 1 guy get robbed at gun point on the night shift. some really bad neighborhoods you go to at night. -
BBone summed it up. Delivering fuel at night is much easier than during the day. In addition you also get paid an additional 10 percent on loads for working at night. On the weekends it is an additional 20 percent on top of the 10.
The one thing to watch out for on nights is most of the loading facilities will shut down for 30-60 minutes to do gauging. -
I used to haul for Eastern Motor Transport out of Fairfax Virginia years ago, mostly did the mountain runs and rural gas stations way out in the boonies. The city drivers would need help every once in a while and I found that nights in town were easy, days were a nightmare like the other drivers said.
If I were to ever haul fuel again to gas stations it would have to be at night, no way I would drop gas in the daylight around here. -
my experience at the different load racks in port everglades is they like to "lock out" the drivers for breaking the rules of the terminal.. example: cell phone must be turned off, lights off, some have a certain procedure before you pull into the load bay,you do a walk around, tire check.
you definetly have to be paying attention to the task your doing hauling gas. make sure you are putting the correct product & amount of gallons in the correct compartment. verify the compartment is empty before you fill it, either by sight glass on the pipe or best way is to bucket drain if you can. most racks you bucket drain if you are loading diesel in a compartment that had gas before.
be very careful not to overfill a compartment
be very careful not to "cross drop" example put the gas in the diesel tank at the gas station. you need to verify everything is correct before you do it. once you hit the button to start loading or pull a handle to unload at the station..your committed, no guessing.thelastrebel Thanks this.
