Unfortunately I found all this out while attending the training at Werner. I decided to come home after a week of training. I did not feel safe nor did I think that I was getting any further education

Drove for them in 1995 as a trainer, they give teams and relay drivers all the good runs. The solo drivers get to go in and out of the cities and NE and bring freight out to drop yards for the teams and relays. Then they also have dedicated accounts like dollar general or midwest regional. Which means you will be in and out of Chicago all the time.

I know how you feel, I started with Werner myself when they were at least half way decent. It sounds like they really have gone down hill fast. I heard from a friend who is still on a dedicated account with them that they are laying off around 500 drivers in the western region. I guess maybe they are getting some pay back from how poorly they treat drivers.
I would recommend Marten over JB. From what I have heard Marten seems to have a better reputation. It would be worth the 2 weeks, and it will go by fast. Trucking can still be a good profession, you just have to get some experience and then be a smart shopper when it comes to picking out a company to work for. Good luck to you! -
Schilli Specialized is accepting drivers with 6 months experience from what I've heard...and they always have plenty of miles. I think the shortest week I've had with them was 2600, but that's because I needed to be home. If you are able to run, they'll give you all you can handle.

im new to this, i to have driven for werner it has given me the exp. i need but at what a cost!!!!. i want to put the word out there of my unfortenet mishap. i would like to get some input on it also. ya it seems to me night dispach is not helpfull for most drivers. thay gave me a haz/mat ld in denver to fontana ca.but i had home time coming in cedar city ut.so of corse i had to ASK them to swap me out for that home time. after bugging them all the way to cedar city i was still under the load. so i took my home time that i had set two weeks before with my dispacher and driver manager. well i was fired!!!!! for that and lost 70% of my stuff in the truck. thay foced me to dump it into the trash. cloths/frige/books/food/toiletrie's and basic things like that. as soon as i got to the term. i got serprised with notice to see the term manager ASAP i was told to clean out the truck and go home NOW!!!. I asked why and all i was told is that i was late on that dilivery by 8 hrs. i left alot of details out but this is the jist of it. but im happy to say im still driving and i still enjoy it. i had a good trainer JEFF WINTERS THANKS!!! -
oops wrong forum sorry

I worked for Werner and feel they are not as bad as people say here but there are issues like with most any company this large in any industry.

I will be having first hand experience with werner. Hopefully I will luck out and not run into any of these problems all the other guys/gals had. But seriously isn't there one good story to tell about werner in this forum. Just one, I wouldn't think that would be to much to ask.

Born here is your one good reply about werner
i dont have a whole lot bad to say about werner i dorve for them for 3 years and for the most part they treated me great. when i went solo (48 states plus canada) i had one of the best dispatchers i could have asked for (it might have helped that when i was in training my trainer and I had her dispatch us). after abou 3 weeks of running solo she calls me and says i have 65 drivers on my board an some of wanna run real hard an some of em do more work gettin outta movin he frieght than if they moved the frieght an it seems your one of my runners i told her well my family is a home so i have nothing to do out here but shift gears an trun tires so dont let me sit i have nothin i wanna stop an do or see im here to make as much money as i can!!! with that she proceded to run me right down to the bottom of my 70 hours every week!!! she woudl always keep me preplanned or on a good long haul for the weekends so most of the time i did not have to deal with the stupid weekend liars oops i mean dispatchers. when my wife became pregnant and it was high risk pregnancy i call my dispatcher an told her i gotta quit but i dont wanna and explained how i need to be home with my wife instead of letting me quit she got me a postion in net-ops wich was great up untill bout a year afer i was on net-ops an they changed net-ops dispatchers on me an thats where it went downhill cause this guy would put the crappiest loadsa on me an make me wait forever for my backhauls. so thats why i finnaly left werner. but if i had to do it all over again and start from rookie status would i go with werner? you bet yuh! out of all the horror stories i have heard i had never experienced one of them when i was with werner. since i left werner im now driving part time for a compnay out of st.louis (actually wentzville MO) called DTS an they are even better to than werner. as a matter of fact im considering quiting my full time job an go lease pruchase with them!!!! oh yeah if forgot to add when i was in training with them my trainer an i became great friends an still talk to each other a few times a week. he made the training part fun and taught me well!!! when he could see i was bummed out an missin my kids he would find us time to stop an go do somethin fun such as one night runnin through new mexico i got off the cell phone with my wife an oldest boy an was missin em and bummed out so he took me to a topless establishment an he bought all the sodas an even bought me a lapdance!!! lol
