Big rig catches fire in Carson collision, 2 trapped
8/7/07

A big rig and another vehicle collided in Carson early this morning, trapping two people and causing the big rig to catch fire, authorities said. The accident occurred at 1:02 a.m. on Wilmington Avenue just north of East Del Amo Boulevard, said California Highway Patrol Officer Alex Gonzalez.

Two people were trapped in the smaller vehicle, and Los Angeles County firefighters worked to free them. The flames destroyed around 75 percent of the fully loaded containers that the big rig was carrying, Gonzalez said, adding that it was not known what was in the containers.
