Hello, All. I'm a new driver. I am also a gamer: video, tabletop, CCG's, you name it. Here's my issue: I want to buy an HDTV to take on the road, but I don't want to waste my money on a POS (obviously). So far, I haven't been impressed with what I've seen in truckstops, but I also figure there must be a reason for the companies to sell to truckers specifically.
As far as durability goes, I'm not so concerned. I'm hyper-protective of my devices and will go so far as wrapping my electronics in an egg crate and storing them in a box filled with pillows when they're not in use (it's not as though I'll be playing Gears of War 3 while I'm driving.)
What I do want is good quality in picture and sound, utility, power efficiency, and a manageable size, no larger than 25". Does anyone have any suggestions?
I need advice on a solid HDTV.

The Skyworth, Naxa, and RCA products are all very good. Good quality picture, reliability, 12V power option, and ALL offer built-in DVD's also.
All of our customers have been very satisfied with the units we carry. We even offer a 15.6 inch under $200 after Mail-in Rebate. -
I've got a (either 15 or 17 inch) NAXA tv with built-in DVD player and so far, after almost a year of use in the truck, I'm pretty happy with it as its done well holding up to the abuses of riding in a truck.
Not sure about the Skyworth brand or any of the other truckstop brands, but with the NAXA, don't ever lose the remote because universal remotes, at least the ones I tried from both Walmart and radio shack, don't have codes for NAXA tv's but, if you use the auto code search available on most of the newer universals, you can find codes listed for other tv brands that will work a small portion of the tv controls and like two, maybe three commands on the DVD part.
But if you do lose the remote, you can order one from NAXA.com for relatively cheap. -
I have a 17 vizio and have it mounted to a swinging wall mount like normal. But instead off mounting the wall mount to the wall I mounted it to a 6in 90deg construction wall brace. The flex in the metal brace helps absorb any shock from the road. Still watchable though while co-driver is driving.

we had a 23" vizio hd(720) in the truck for almost 2 years and it was fine we just upgraded to a 26" led lcd hd (1080)
we never buy electronics from a truckstop,,, way over priced -
As you say you are looking for quality, you should look at your primary players in TV technology (Panasonic, Samsung, LG, Hitachi, JVC, Sony, Toshiba, etc)
With the limited space in the truck, if you watch DVD's, then consider one of the "combos" with the DVD player built in.
For research purposes, I find that the technical specs and user reviews on NewEgg, Amazon, and C-Net to be extremely helpful and almost always lead me to a wise decision using one or a combination of them. -
My wide bought a TV for me. Now all I have to do is figure out how to protect it.

This is something I have a great deal of experience in. I used to work for Sears Holdings Corp. in the electronics dept. I would personally go for a Samsung or a Sony. They make the best LCDTVs out there. If you don't want to spend too much money and still get a decent TV go for a Vizio. Best of luck to you.
