Hey everyone, I'm about to get on the road again (that's a song...)
When I got out of OTR I canceled my subscription to Sirius Satellite Radio because it was costing me money and I'm trying to live as "Streamlined" as I can so my hard work will eventually pay off some day (by saving up).
What alternatives are there for getting music in the truck (other than the radio since anyone who's been out there a little while knows... there are lots of "dead zones" all over the country where radio will cut out)???
I've heard talk of an "Ipod" a lot but really don't get what exactly it is, and if it would benefit me. I saw someone using one before but they seem to have headphones from the device... I want my sound from the truck speakers, my ears want to be free so I can hear road conditions, ambulances, whatever I may need to hear.
I do use a blue parrot headset for hands free phone calls, but it's only one ear that gets a headphone on it, leaving the other one free for important stuff.
Bout 2 start round 2 of OTR, sick of spending money on sirius, what r alternatives?

If you have an android smart phone and a good data plan try the pandora radio app.

I pull more then 20gb streaming Slacker Radio and Iheartradio. -
They do make wireless adapters that you can use your ipod or other mp3 player through your speakers. The one i use in my car, has 4 radio stations that I can use to tune the sound from... Pretty neat.

I've always just listened to the radio. Only local radio will give you local weather, local traffic, and local news. Sure, there are some dead zones where you may not find the type of station you prefer, but you can use that time to expand your horizons...listen to something new or different for a few miles until you can pick up another station playing your preferred genre of music. Or, you can carry a few of your favorite CD's or cassettes (depending upon what the stereo in the truck has) to get you through the dead zones, too.
Sometimes it's just as nice to just turn off the radio and drive. -
you can get a wire that runs from your phone to your radio. then it plays through your radio with no interference ever. if you have a smart phone download a free mp3 app and start building an mp3 library. crystalradio.net has a deal for $5.00 you get 15 downloads of stern, btls, o&a, etc. dunno if you o/o or not, if you are go get a 100 rADIO from walmart with an aux jack and a $5.00 cable to link to your phone and your all set.

Doesn't the CB chatter/Q-Comm beeping/cell phone ringing/one-lane ahead signs etc keep you entertained enough ?

Never tried it so I may be wrong, but if a driver is in such a dead zone there are no radio stations available, wouldn't that driver's Internet connection be spotty or nonexistant as well?

Download music on Napster and make mixed cassettes.
