Recently I noticed when I hit some big potholes on the road my hood opens(hood release) I mean not all the way but today it happened...scary thing, was making a left turn and light changed red and I had to step hard on brakes and boom...it opened all the way:biggrin_2553:
I was driving the same road before and same potholes and it never opened..So I'm thinking that I need a new hood release latch upper?

I dont want this to happen on the freeway...:biggrin_2557: My heart's gonna sink:biggrin_2553:
So while I'm at home I wanna get it fixed. Thank you!

What I did on a company truck I drove (with boss's permission) I put some regular rubber latches that most trucks have and that worked well. I had the same happen as well. Its definately not safe. Good luck....

yeah, this is a problem of Version-II. it usually happens with early verion-II trucks, becouse locks and latches are worn. We use to replace both the lock and latch with new.

We have a truck that had that problem. I put new on the hood side and it fixed it. I think you can turn them 180 degrees and they will work for a while.

Start with lower laches. Thats what went bad on my truck. After replacing them grab hood on the side and try to lift it. If it comes unhook replace uppers. Also lower laches cost around 50 bucks each, while uppers will set you back 120 bucks each. Unless of course you'll get them from that web site.

I replaced both upper and lower latchess on both sides of the 2005 hood the summer.

I paid 45.89 and 46.82 for lower left and right side. Both upper latches are the same. They are 72.89 each. All from my local volvo dealer in nothern jersey. Plus taxes.

this is a problem with most volvo trucks sooner or later. the part you listed is referred to as a hood stob as well. the actual latch that is bolted on the wheel well has 2 clamping jaws that "bite" and hold on to the other part. they usually go bad in pairs.

i just changed company trucks, another volvo. my old one had new latches and stobs, so i took them off and put them on my newer truck as the hood was having latch issues lol

this is a reason to carry a few bungee straps. my hood started doing this in new mexico once and i just put 2 straps on the side that was opening. i pulled them really tight and it stayed closed until i got home.

Russian drivers like Volvo hood becouse no one can steal anything from under hood on distant truck stops. it is the real problem of International and Freightlines. any thief can gently open a hood and steal ECM for example. But not with Volvo!
