I have a friend who said his truck was confiscated by the DOT. He got stopped for a level one inspection and a couple of infractions were found. DOT said give me 10 mins and you will be one your way. 30 mins later his truck was surrounded by 4 DOT SUV 's. When they looked in their computer it said his company failed to pay an overweight ticket from 10 months ago and so they took his truck, can they legally do that ? Seems a little harsh, put you out of service maybe but take the truck to a tow shop they use, never heard of that before. The fine went up 700.00 and then had to pay 30.00 day that the truck was in the tow yard.

I think there's more to it than that. Either your friend left something out, or there's something else going on with his boss. Whichever it is, you're not getting the whole story.

Maybe he was going 90mph in California

another great trucker story full of detail, speculation, exaggeration, big fish and wild women\ LOL
SHC Thanks this. -
Only thing missing NOW are some of those little known details """"SOMEBODY"""" (who always seems to have the best, most exciting details at that.... )
told me.....
-
It isn't that it was overweight, it was that the overweight condition was caused by bales of marijuana.
I know because a driver at the truckstop told me and he heard it straight from his dispatcher who has a friend whose sister works with the cousin of the guy it happened to. -
One call to the local Federal Marshal's office would have gotten the DOT to back off
Hardlyevr Thanks this. -
"Federal Marshal" wouldn't have done anything NOR do they care, I don't know who told you they would...
-
They didn't "take" or "confiscate" his truck; they IMPOUNDED it. Big difference.

I think he was being sarcastic.SheepDog, Injun, Big John and 1 other person Thank this.
