im in atlanta just finished orientation and from what ive seen they are running freightliner columbia and cascadias, and i did see a few new volvo's as well..
-
Sounds like nice equipment. Have you heard from other drivers what kind of miles they are getting?
-
Hey Dukes68, I run the midwest although I'm clear out in Wy.right now. I am a company driver and usually stay out 2 weeks at a time. On the weeks that I'm not home on the weekend I will usually get about 2400 give or take a little. It's alot of overnight runs, they are pretty good about giving you something to run over the weekend. Don't usually leave you sitting unless you tell them you need a 34. Since I've come to the midwest fleet, I've been happy.

Hey Biggen0-8
Thanks for the feedback concerning miles, any other information that you think would be helpful would be appreciated. Looking at 4 to 5 companies will be ready to go the middle of October. -
Dukes68 I see your out of Rockford so you would definitly be running out of Portage. They're good people there, like a whole different company when I got up here and away from Jackson. We pull a lot of loads in and out of Rochelle and Rockford and Madison. You'll have no problem getting home, and the folks at Portage get you home when you want, as long as you give the 5 or 6 days advance notice. They run me by the house quite abit of the weekends that I don't go home.
Most of the company drivers are running Cascadias now, and quite a few of the L/O too. They are kept in good shape, I've never had any problems except for the normal. They are getting a few Volvos in but don't hold your breath on getting one of them. They are all run of the mill fleet trucks with 10 speeds and governed at 62.5 mph. Quite a few have APU's but not all, mine does but it needs to be worked on right now.
I see your a student so having been there let me suggest a couple of companies NOT to start with, if you have a choice between them and KLLM. 1. CRST 2. Swift 3. USA 4.England I have worked for CRST so I can speak from experience, KLLM is better.
Swift and USA and England I have friends that have worked for these. And having listened to their horror stories I can say that I have little doubt that KLLM is better than them as well.
I'm sure there are companies that are better than KLLM, but I don't know if they accept students.
One company that does is Maverick I worked for them for about 6 months and decided that flat bedding was not for me. Also I hate automatics and all the buzzers and beepers they have in the tractors.
They treated me with respect and never lied to me( and that's rare in this business) However they will tell you that you will do things the Maverick way or you will be gone. And they mean it. -

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, Maverick is one that Iam looking at along with Roehl,WEL and Kreilkamp. Iam not interested in flatbedding either, autos don't bother me though. I would like to get started with one company and stay there if at all possible.
Take care of yourself and thanks again for your input. -
Can someone on here help me with whether or not KLLM can be the company that keeps me and my family happy, or at least content? I am in the final stages of training and will be testing out next wk. Really need to make a decision and I don't want to commit suicide. I am already aware of the negativity about the starter companies but KLLM really caught my eye and had good input from my instructors.

I've never worked for KLLM, so anything I say is based on observation alone.
I used to want to work for KLLM since 2007. Lately, based on a lot of drivers posting, I no longer would make that commitment. Read all of the KLLM threads on this site. I'm hoping they return to what they used to be, and hope I'm completely wrong in my thinking, but that is just my opinion.
I think you can do better. -
Definitly read as much as you can on this forum. I have worked for KLLM for the last year as a company driver. Overall I have been pretty happy with KLLM, it may not be the best company but it's far from the worst. Seeing that your from N.C. you should be able to get on the Southeast div. which runs out of Atlanta.
I don't know what exactly will make you and your family content, you would have to explain that a little more, before I might be able to answer that for you.
In reference to what Jarhed had to say about the company changing, I have been told that it was different/better before the original owners sold it. But I can't really speak to what it used to be.Jarhed1964 Thanks this.
