Hello everyone. I am a former driver for J.B. Hunt. While I agree with many things that you say, I have a little contention with several aspects of this thread. True, I could have went with a number of companies other than J.B. The fact of the matter is they were the only one who guaranteed to consistently get me home on weekends. As my fiance lived in Birmingham, that meant a lot to me. I only worked with them for six months and they never let me down. Sometimes I got home a little later on Saturday, but my fleet manager (who knew me by name) would always make it up to me. I never worried about my pay. It was direct deposited the same day every week. They would pay you for a delivery before they even had the paperwork. I see people rushing to put Trip Pak's in the box before a certain time. I never worried about that. I did have my share of problems with the company. It's very difficult to make a long delivery without being able to go over 63 mph. It causes driver fatigue and it is not very safe. Try going 63 mph on 285 around Atlanta at 5pm. What a nightmare!! Actually, if you are going downhill and your truck hits 70 mph, the "check engine" light comes on. Pretty funny, huh?? Other drivers would make fun of me on the cb but I became immune to it. Heck, I usually made fun of myself before they had a chance to. Drivers would ask me what was my handle? I would respond, " Most people just call me, Get the *&%% Out of the Way!!!" True, there are many one, two, and three million milers on the J.B. payroll. J.B. has good benefits and J.B. gives great bonuses to the million milers.
Now, my recruiter was the biggest liar on the face of the earth. He promised me just about anything to get me to switch companies and come to J.B. More money per mile (lie); more miles per week (lie); 2006 or 2007 tractor (lie); trucks were governed at 68mph (lie); average length of haul is 900 miles (lie); fast easy cash advances (lie); cd player in every truck (lie); all trucks prewired for cb (lie); 90% drop and hook (lie); option to switch to dedicated after 30 days (lie); "open door" easy access to upper management (lie); quick and efficient pm service (lie); layover and drop pay without a hassle (lie); home for the holiday(s) (lie); etc. etc.
I am not a complainer and I really have no right to do so. To the best of my memory, noone was holding a gun to my head when they handed me the keys to my truck. You live and you learn. Life's lessons are usually not very pleasant but we take the bad with the good and look forward to what's down the road. Thank you everyone and I am sorry for the long post.

Who the hell was your recruiter anyway?

At least mine had nuts enough to tell me the bad with the good.

Hockey Driver, I wish that I could remember. He gave me his business card when I was at a truck stop in N. Little Rock, AR. That should have tipped me off to begin with. At that time, I was still driving for Werner and I thought that nothing could be worse than that. As I previously stated, live and learn. In retrospect, Werner was a far better company to drive for. (except for the paperless logs) Driving southeast regional with JB over a ten-state radius, I rarely got over 1400 miles per week. One time, I got over 2000 miles and the next week I got 1100 miles. It was nothing to sit over 36 hrs. at a truck stop waiting for a load assignment. And, no, I was not being punished. I was never late to a single delivery and my fleet manager liked me. She kept apologizing until it started to nauseate me. At least with Werner, it was nothing for me to get 2750 a week. For a while, I would run from Lewiston, ME to Laredo, TX and back to Philly. I loved that route!! Oh well, now I have to figure out where to work next.

I find myself having a lack sympathy for drivers that drink the kool aide JB recruiters serve up over the phone. Remember what happened in Jonestown don't you.....If you been in this industry for a year you know better than to go JB hunt ...If your a new person I can see why you might get taken to the cleaners with them cause you don't know thier reputation and 42cpm may seem like more money than the 26-35 your earning as a driver starting out until you find out that they put everything they can on a rail car and let dedicated drivers making 30cpm pull everything they can and you get whats left which is very little as a OTR driver....35,000 a year if your lucky and don't think your going to be able to take that truck with you if you go home...if it needs mait oryou live west side of the river it is going to be parked on the yard and you go home without it. I never worked there never will

Believe me, Dannyboy, I am not looking for anyone's sympathy. I consciously made the choice and I suffered the consequences. Plain and simple. The only positive aspect was being home every weekend. They really have liberal policies about letting you take your truck home with you. I always bobtailed home and parked in my driveway. If there was a problem with the truck, I would leave it at the yard to be repaired and just have my wife come pick me up. I would have been hard pressed to make 35,000.00 this year with J.B. Sometimes my checks were less than 350.00 for a full week. Everyone on this board is who they are because of the mistakes that they have made and the lessons that they have carried away from those mistakes. As far as drinking J.B. "koolaid". Remember Jim Jones only suckered 913 people to kill themselves in Guyana. Somehow, J.B. has convinced 10's of thousands of people to buy their snakeoil. God bless them and I hope all of them have an epiphany one day and turn in their keys.

Given that pay is weekly, I can see an occasional $350.00 paycheck, but it better be because I got a ton of miles tied up on the next check.

That said, after looking it up, my lowest paycheck with J.B. Hunt was $450.00. I wasn't with them very long though, and this was back in 1992. I can't remember the exact pay per mile, but it was somewhere around .17/mile.

Bullwinkle I read many of your post in here I thought your were squared away...JB How could you man? Driving for JB hunt is like tounge kissing your hot cousin fun for awhile but you know in the end it can't end good. Guess I am the last person out there that said No and allways says no to the Kool Aide. Bless you and I am glad to hear it was 15 years ago....Are you the same Bullwinkle from Americas Trucking network?

Give me stars or at least a review on my posts about Nationwide transportation I want people to see it may help someone cause they are growing pretty fast and recruiting hard.
