So this morning we went over the pretrip & that was pretty much all for the morning. It took a while cause each one of us had to go over it individually with the trainer. After that we went to lunch. When we got back from lunch we were put into pairs and and issued a truck. we did the pretrip, hooked to a set of trailers and then were given a map with directions to a field where we would switch drivers and have the second guy drive back to the yard. It only took about 90 minutes round trip. But that ended training. Now I wait for a call telling me whether I have to be back Monday or Tuesday night for my first shift.

I just read your forum. Im glad to see alliance took care of you.Im actually going through the same loops with them as you did. Sometimes i feel like im not going to get the help but im not giving up. Good luck with your job search
thePUNISHER Thanks this. -
Hey thanks man! Through a series of unfortunate events I am unemployed again but I have alot of leads I'm checking out right now. If nothing pans out with these local gigs I'll probably be going OTR in a month or 2. As for that Alliance stuff...Yeah it can be a real pain in the @zz but if you keep at it & do everything they want you to it should work out for the best. Just keep at it & it will pay off in the end. Good luck to you too!

Man that sucks... I hope your leads pan out - if they don't, I'll see you out here

So Punisher, looking back on it now do you wish you would have taken a OTR job right out of school and try and knock that first year then look for something closer?
-
No, not really. I still have that as an option but it's looking like I'll be able to get something local going in the next couple weeks so everything is going to work out for me.Lady K Thanks this.

Great thread.
I just finished my orientation with Alliance, and and am going down the same path you are.
Do you feel like you got enough training to make a go at it?
There are other schools in this area that offer longer courses, but I guess Western is the one one that Alliance pays for.
Hope I qualify for this.
Good luck, man. -
Yeah I definitely feel like I got enough training. WePac is a good school. I researched most of the schools in the area an felt like it was the best one. The office staff is always friendly an helpful and the instructors were very good. I don't really have anything bad at all to say about the school. Good luck to you!

So it looks like I'll be starting a new job tomorrow. Not exactly the job I was hoping to get but hey I'll take it. I'm going to be working for a small company in Merced driving a Freightliner cabover with a straight 7 speed trans. I'll be double bottom dump grain hoppers from the field to the mill. It's a temporary seasonal job for the next month or 2 if things work out. So I'll be driving again!
