I hate the ones that aren't clear. Saw one in SC, had an electronic light up board underneath the weigh station sign, but it didn't say anything. Not open or closed. So I figured if it doesn't say it's open, then it's not open.
And then there's the ones with both prepass and the light-up prepass boards on the side of the road. Prepass beeps green, and sign on roadside says all trucks must enter scales. Aaaarrrrxxxxbblllggggghhhh..... I follow the prepass, since there's always a sign saying prepass trucks follow in-cab signals.
Never been chased yet, so I must be doing something right. -
Do the scale houses monitor a particular CB channel so if you did pass you could contact them and let them know you're going to next exit to turn around(and not back up on highway)?...

most modern weigh stations have scales on the roadway along with camera and stuff and can weigh you on the fly, but if i know if that scale up there and i've been doing the same run or route several time's, you can pretty much tell when there going to be opean, anyway, i got in line ,waited my turn , red light, pull around back, gatherd up all my goodees, took it all inside, she said what you doing in here, i told her you gave me a red light and come inside, o- i forget too swicth it off, your weight ok , and told me get going , i said okay, she didnt even pop opean the books or anything, grab my goodees and got out there.

Here's one bit of advise?, when in dout?, enter the scale, dot has heard many many excuses on why a driver missed the scale, you may have gottin', lucky this time, but might not be so lucky the second time, running a scale comes with a hefty fine, not worth tarnishing your CDL for, when in dout?, enter, This just my opinion

some use to, but dont think they do anymore, or at least let you know about it

Scales also have a 2-way loud speaker. If the scalemaster wanted you to stop, you would have known about it.
I passed a scale because the light changed after I crossed it. The scalemaster told me to stop and back up onto the scale. -
I had one that gave me a green light then as I started to leave they needed to weigh me again for some reason, they came over the speaker and asked me to go around and come back on the scale. I did and they apologized for the inconvenience and off I went. It's not uncommon for them to turn the light green and as soon as your steers are off the scale the light goes red for the next truck.
