I live in Brandon, FL, which is just outside Tampa and literally 10 minutes south of I-4. This puts me right outside the hiring of most companies that hire students for OTR solo positions. Out of the 30 I called this morning, only three, Swift, Werner and CTL would hire from my area. However, my parents live about 40 minutes north of I-4 right off I-75, which seems to be just in the hiring area for many of the companies I called.

I've read on here about people using addresses of family that are in the hiring areas of the companies they are interested in. Is this something that I could do, or would it come back to bite me? With Florida's uber-strict proof of residency requirements, I can't switch my DL address to my parent's house. Will companies make a fuss if the address of my DL doesn't match the address I put on my application?

I have the same problem but up in MI. I live 4 miles North of I-69, and a lot of companies have 69 as their cut off line. I did think about using family's addresses for work that is south of 69, but there is one main reason I didn't. There is a reason companies draw lines and it has to do where their shippers and receivers are. If you fake the address to get a job hometime will be horrible as one is now very hard to get in the area. Not to mention if you lie on an app and it's found out bad things happen!

Davis requires experience. Central turned me down due to work history. Knight and WEL won't hire recent graduates out of my area. Neither will Celadon, JB Hunt, KLLM, Melton Truck Lines, PAM Transport, Prime, Roehl, Schneider, Southern Refer, Star Transport, Stevens, USA Truck, Wiley Sanders and Wil-Trans. Roehl hires out of my parents zip code, which is less than an hour north of me. I'll give MCT a call. I know their sister company, WSE, has a hiring freeze in Florida, according to the recruiter. Armenilli is only hiring teams, as is Covenant and US Express. I'll give Windy Hill, HTL, Peninsula, Super Service and Epes a call tomorrow.

I knew Florida would be a tough state to get hired out of, but I didn't know it would be this bad.

USXpress hired me solo out of Florida, but I'm not a student. Keep trying back with some of those compoanies. Their hiring criteria seems to change daily.

Is it that hard to change your address in Fla now? I haven't moved in a long time.

Yeah, it's a nightmare to change it. When I moved back in March I had to bring in a ton of paperwork to prove my residency.

I just checked HTL's website. They require two years OTR and 6 months flatbed. I'll still give them a call tomorrow.

All you need is two pieces of mail with the new address. It's not that hard. Tell the company your staying with your parents. Drivers move around all the time. Downside though, is they'll expect the truck to be parked somewhere up there on hometime. Have you checked the other Comcar companies like CCC or even CT? Were you not recruited out of truck driving school? Your school will help you get placed with another company usually. FFE will hire you and they have a terninal in Winter Haven.

Forgot to put in my original post that CCC will hire from here. The recruiter didn't say CT was, and they apparently all use the same recruiting department. I called CTL, then CCC, both which had different numbers for recruiting, and the same lady answered. I've called FFE numerous times, left numerous voicemails, etc. Guess they aren't interested. LOL.

I haven't gone to school yet. I want to make sure there are a enough companies hiring from my area before I spend the money. I'd hate to only have a few companies to rely on after going through school and find none of them hire me.

The two pieces of mail have to be government or from a financial institution, etc. Everything I have that would count has my address here on it. I think there might be something my parents can fill out stating I live with them. The lovely phone operators at the DMV were telling people any two pieces of mail so people were bringing in junk mail, letters from friends, etc. Needless to say, there were a lot of pissed off people when I was there!
