Why do we defend other drivers? Well I have a couple of opinions on this, so take your pick with a grain of salt.
(1) We like to think that other drivers will maintain a level of safety of professionalism, as well as safety. Now WE all know that there are too many drivers who do not meet the level of professionalism, but we still like to believe in this line of thought. We know there are drivers who look unprofessional, talk unprofessional, and have trucks that are pigsties. On top of that we have drivers throwing "bombs" out on the pavement, or running down the road. Still we like to believe in professionalism just as LEO's, CO's and other professionals do.
(2) We have seen all too often stupid decisions made by 4-wheelers. Whether the driver in question cuts us off suddenly, doesn't merge well, hangs out in our blind spots, and God only knows what else that I can't think of at the moment. These moves are made due to ignorance on the part of these drivers, but that doesn't help us in dealing with the situations and obstacles they present to their lack of knowledge.
Now neither of these justifies a driver running a stop sign, but none of us were there. We don't KNOW that the OP is based on fact, or if it is based on their view of the incident. For example, you and I see a driver cutting in front of us quickly without giving us appropriate stopping as unsafe driving. The driver of said vehicle simply sees it as getting to their exit quickly. Do we KNOW that the driver was in sight of the truck, or did conditions limit visibility?
The truth is none of us know, but I still see it as a bad call to report a driver for a minor incident which may or may not have been intentional.
Drivers pay attention!!

I don't know weather to laugh at you or feel sorry for you.....
You need a life.... seriously. Not joking at all.
Go look in the mirror and tell your self how you send your free time, posting on trucker forums about "what ifs". If that sounds out of the ordinary it is because it is.
Seriously....go find a hobby or something. There are a lot of things you can spend your time out there in the world other then what your doing now. You should seek some professional advice or maybe help or guidance of some kind.
May I offer some suggestions? Go help the homeless, help the abused women shelters, help troubled kids or something along those lines. There are a lot of programs you can go do something at to consume your time. Other then coming on here and posting threads and threats.
We do not come to your place of work and bad mouth you so others can hear you. Next time call the police and let them do their job if someone is dangerous. You are not the police. You have zero authority over that driver or the company and you can not punish him or the company. So just go find something else to do with your life. You have zero power or control by posting here. You truly are a sad person. -
It sure took long enough for some one to bring this up!
just cause the OP said that's what happened dosn't make it so.
I had a witch call and blow me in for running cars (severall)off the road,
How could I have run anyone off the road when I was idleing along in 3rd gear for 2miles and HER LANE ENDED! I spent over an hour in that traffic and I think a LEO could've cought up with me had I really been "speeding down the road terrorizing people"
Take what the Op said with a grain of salt, there may be some truth in it or not. -
I tend to differ. Had it been a 4 wheeler that run the stop sign in front of her, there would of been some hand raising, a horn honking and that would be the end of it.
This lady already said she called the company, now is filing a complaint of sorts on this forum and is going to follow up further. She is even telling us innocent professional drivers to "Pay Attention". That right there tells me what she thinks of ALL truck drivers. This sounds like she is on a mission of vengence to me. Isn't calling the company enough??
Truth be known she probably chased him for 5 miles cussing, tailgating and all kinds of madness went on.
If it was so bad, why wasn't the law called?? Like capital 48 said, how do we know she didn't come flying over a hill and was inconvenienced by this truck. Once a truck starts to pull out, it takes several seconds.
I've called on 3 truck drivers in my career and that was because they were blatant idiots repeatedly and deliberately messing with me or others and were a danger to people on the road. I know I have dealt with atleast 1000 incidents over the years alot worse than she had. You deal with it and you move on.
I'm sorry but this is hardly worth a tree hanging. Her name fits her well.bullhaulerswife Thanks this. -
Listen; I see and deal with stuff like this on a daily basis driving local (no, I am not saying OTR guy's/gal's don't deal with it every day too).
My route takes me to an industrial park area. Unfortunately, there is a Wal-Mart, Farm & Fleet, Target, and several other (shopping & restaurant related) businesses in the same area; split from the industrial park by a state highway that runs north & south.
There are SEVERAL easy and convinient ways for 'shoppers' to get on the highway (without going out of their ways) from ALL direction, to get to their destinations without cutting through the industrial park.
But since everyone is in a big hurry these days....and I do mean everyone. These four wheelers will take the main drag that runs through the industrial park going east & west.
Now we (trucks) HAVE to be in the industrial park to pick-up and deliver our freight (i.e.- do our JOBS)---that is the "premiss" of an industrial park. And we HAVE to cross this main east/west road that splits the industrial park (north and south)---but there is ALWAYS 'shopper' traffic' trying to save 3 seconds off their commute to the stores.
Well; needless to say, we CAN NOT sit at the #### stop signs all day waiting on people that have no reason to be on that road. Eventually we gotta get our work done because businesses have shipping/recieving hours. So we pick our best and safest opportunity, and we hit the foot-feet and go for it.
Each one of the drivers (including myself) from my company that works in the area, has had atleast one call on them for "pulling out in front of someone".
I also talk every day with other LTL drivers from other companies (I know a lot of them by name because we see each other on docks every day), and THEY have had calls made on them.
Fortunately, our companies know the area, and know exactally what is going on, and do nothing more than attempt to 'comfort' the caller/complaintant, and assure them that we will be getting a "talking to". We DO get talked to, but not written up, disiplined, or fired....just a "watch what you're doing, and be careful".
Here's an idea: STAY THE HELL OUT OF THE INDUSTRIAL PARK! There are pleanty of ways to get to where you "wanna" (not "have to") be, without driving through an area that is built for and dominated by trucks. We got work to do, and we can't be sitting at a stop sign all day because you are just about out of ketchup and toilet paper.
And another idea: STOP BEING IN SUCH A HURRY ALL THE TIME! The stores will be there when you get there, whether it's at 1:45 or 1:47---it's not always about YOU.
I know "you" are the most important person to "you"...but we as truckers, are serving a great deal more people than just "you"....and believe it or not, "they" think they are more important than you also. If "you" feel you need special treatment, then start freaking tipping me like a waiter/waitress, and I will give you special attention.
And to those of you who are disgusted with those of us who are sticking up for the truck driver...how do you know what the circumstances were? Could have been just as I discribed above...the OP doesn't and won't say. All they (OP) know is their day was slowed down for a couple seconds, because a truck driver MAY HAVE just been trying to get his job done. We CAN'T be sitting at a stop sign all day just because there are WAY too many four-wheelers just out wondering around.
Of course he (the driver) may have just plain ran the stop sign, and was a complete inconsiderate dick---but it is more my experience, that he just had to pick his opportunity, and go for it...because he had work to do. And unfortunately, the OP was delayed for a second or two because they had to slow down.
Where IS the OP anyway? Hasn't been back to post....but I bet they have been reading; and their silence tells me they may have changed their mind and has looked at the situation through our eyes.
Yes Stormey....I accept your apology, and I know you will be more careful next time.capital 48 and jlkklj777 Thank this. -
Not comming to a full stop was the only thing this driver did wrong. I cant count how many times I would come to a stop, check traffic, and then see a car hauling ### around a corner as I make the turn.
The last thing you want to do though is stop in the middle of the turn. Even if there's a emergancy vehicle comming, complete the turn and then stop. Don't block the intersection. -
What if this, what if that. What if the OP is actually telling it how it happened?
-
The OP would be dead ... OP claims the driver pulled out when she was "less than 30 to 50 feet" away. Stopping distance at 30mph is about 45 feet.
No mention of her locking up brakes and stopping just short of hitting the truck. Given the tone of the OP's post I'm sure this would have been mentioned
Facts as stated by the OP don't add up. -

So; yes tinytim....I was exaggerating when I mentioned the "Pony Express"....but; do I REALLY have to point that out to people?bullhaulerswife and capital 48 Thank this. -
lol, one phone call and one fax is all. The email came back undeliverable each time they tried which would explain why they made more than one attempt. Far from "...presented him/her self to the company as one great big impatient pain in the ###..."
Sorry, but I'm giving the OP the benefit of the doubt. It it really was one of the possible scenarios people have dreamed up the OP knows that and is just playing games.
If not, they have a legitimate complaint and a whole lot of posts to reinforce a bad stereotype about truckers.
Whichever case it is I have no tolerance for anyone who does what the OP claims this driver did. I've seen the deadly results of a truck impatiently pulling out when they should have waited.Lonesome Thanks this.
