My story is this, I drove OTR for almost 6 months and then got a local/regional job and did that for about a year. I have been on Active Duty in the National Guard (recruiting) and spent almost 2 1/2 years doing that. I am going to start driving again and am scheduled for orientation at US Xpress this month. I would like the dedicated Dollar General position, yes i am aware of having to unload, i did that with a few of the accounts at my last driving job and don't mind that, the sooner it gets off the truck the sooner I can go to the next stop. My question is this. I was told it would be my choice to do either the dedicated job or go OTR, how reliable are the recruiters at US Xpress? I am being told since I have not had any OTR experience for the last 3 years I would have to do about 50 hours with a trainer, and am fine with that. I am just struggling with being told I will have a choice. I am not opposed to going OTR, but from what i am seeing is that the Dedicated would be a better fit for me.
Looking forward to the Recruiting comments.
OTR or Dedicated after orientation?

You will actually have to do 150 hours with a trainer.
-
Thanks for the info musicgal. I am not against 150 hours of training it has been over 2 years since i have driven. It looks like I will be going to orientation on the 26th at the Springfield Oh terminal.

Being flexible like that will get you far. Hopefully you get a good trainer that can help you enhance your driving. Good luck and keep us updated.

You have a choice, but your choice mostly depends on where you live and what's available. The lady that runs dedicated is a trip. She knows every account and what's available right off the top of her head.

There is a modified 50 hour training program too. We had one person in orientation that did that and not the 150 hour. The Dollar General Account is a lot of work, and there is plenty there to keep you as busy as you want to be. You will most likely run your 14 hour day almost everyday too.

Hard work is good for you!!! If I knew I could get on DG I'd sign up in a heartbeat!!!

Yes I agree with you, and the door is wide open on the DG account, if you want to do that you are more then welcome to -
You could also do Dollar Tree that runs Savannah GA to Key West. Even more work on that account as you touch every box on the truck. All hand unload but you do get a set of rollers to use. -
Yes It depends on were you live If you live in Arkansas don't count on it...
