what kind of trucks does central have? which will a newbie get assign to? does central have seat splitting?

We have a 2500 watt inverter in our truck and it really isn't to bad on the batteries, it also lets you know when your batteries are getting down and tells you how much wattage your using, we have the cooler plugged into inverter 24/7 as the 12 volt outlets melt the plugs! we also have my laptop pretty much plugged in 24/7 and use the Microwave and coffee maker on a regular basis.

Good idea Nomad! Those reefers have been working over time all summer long and probably never get defrosted! Another thing you can do is keep old newspapers or magazines in your truck and when the drain plugs are open or the rubbers are missing just crumple up some newspaper pages and shove them up in the holes. Usually three or four crumpled up balls stop them up pretty good and the trailer will stay a lot cooler. When the reefer has to run hard like that every little bit helps. You will notice too that when you are coming from say out west once you pass through OK the air starts getting real humid and this is when you need to hit defrost on the reefer. Anywhere east of OK is a lot more humid then out west and when coming from super dry air to really humid gulf coast moisture it will ice. Used to do it in my W9. This is how I found out about it. Every time we got to OK my A/C would stop working for a little while. Well I popped the hood the next time it happened and found a block of ice! So we would run the heat for a bit to defrost it and pull some dry air through the system and then it was like once it was used to the more humid air it ran just fine. I guess it was just that instant build up of humid air that froze.

They will run defrost often in the summer and any time they are turned off the coils will melt off. There are times depending on the load, the sensor won't realize it needs a defrost. But most times the will do it and you never even know. Most of the time you can just let it do its thing.

Just for grins and giggles and cause I think it helps, I usually do a manual defrost everytime I get out of the trk.

I'm a newbie with Central...got my cdl in April and got suckered into a lease in July. I am having a hard time making ends meet, I have already switched DM's a couple of times (oh and Milt was my Dm too CelticWolf) and am doing the Kraft dedicated account currently, though debating getting out of that. Any one here been a lease operator and hired a team driver? I'm trying to figure out how I can make more money and it seems like I can't get much more than 2500 miles a week no matter how much I push, beg and plead. I'm always early, always on my dm's asking to deliver early, get me a new load, etc. I just don't know if hiring a team driver will make much of a difference financially. I would like to be a trainer, but I need a couple months of winter driving before that will be an option.
One thing I have learned that no one bothered to tell me for a couple months is that if my empty miles on a load go over a certain amount/percentage (i believe its 18%), I can request a fuel surcharge. Not knowing that hurt me bad at first and cost me a lot, cuz central was giving me a lot of deadhead miles between jobs (like 300-400, ouch!) and I didn't know better. -
