The blood clots are something I know next to nothing about. Can they throw a clot and cause you to lose conscience, or stroke? Or is that other types of clots? If they can then driving may not be a good idea................

Just wondering if any truckers out there have suffered from blood clots? I am only 49, and have had multiple emboli in most of the areas of my lungs. I am wondering, that since I feel much better now, should I go ahead with my plans to drive a truck? Any advice will be welcome.

The blood clots that formed in my lungs could have easily gone to my brain and given me a stroke...or I could have had a heart attack. They say it could have been because I was too stationary...stagnant....I wasn't moving around enough. That is one possibility....

That might not be the best approach. That DOT physical asks a lot of questions, if you start hiding stuff that could turn around and bite you in the bottom.

    Hi,

I don't think the DOT Physical asks or prevents you from driving under any of these conditions. I could quit taking the Zoloft right now. I haven't been on it but a few days. The stuff I take is non drowsy.

As for the blood clots, I don't think they are covered by the DOT physical. There may be some kind of question that could lead to it...but I feel fine right now...

    thanks...

I would like to have several more opinions on what I should do. As I said...my orientation starts next Wednesday, and I am not sure if I should go and drive. Maybe I could use a few more pointers. Would it be legal, or not?

Everything that you have stated here should be presented at the physical.
If you are not having issues with blood clots right now, then there should be no reason to not tell them about your history.

Being on blood thinners is a serious issue and Iam sure your own doctor told you that you should be examined when on this medication periodically.

They will ask if you are on any medications at your physcial.

I would check with my doctor because if I am not mistaken blood clots can form if you are stationary for extended periods of time(Like driving a truck). That is why they put compression stockings on patients who are under anesthesia for more than an hour so that clots wont form and they don't throw an embolism. At the very least if they do let you drive you probably would need to stop and stretch your legs every few hours.Koumadin is a great drug for stopping blood clots but it can only do so much.Hope that helps Good luck to you: :iroc:

    Daytona,

Thanks for your input. I was more hoping that I could come off the Coumidin altogether. They really don't know where, how, or why they formed. I was probably too stationary at the time. I had been laid off, and wasn't working. I was just sitting around doing a lot of nothing.

    thanks,
