In my consideration of buying a Volvo, I've searched this forum to find there are several folks who don't like Volvo. I can't help but state that of all the trucks I've seen broke down on the side of the road, NONE has ever been a Volvo. So what gives? Does anyone have anything good to say about Volvo? AND, if they are so bad, why do fleets keep buying them if they are prone to so much downtime and cost?
Why the Bad Rap on Volvo

I can. Smooth ride, good cab, warm inside, safe in collisions and roll over, no dust inside like in International and shaker, good aerodynamix.
what's bad? It is complicated truck and really skilled mechanics can help. Everething is electronic (VECU, climat control, light, door moduls, locks...), parts are not cheap. -
I think the bad rap comes from the fact they arent as "plush" as some of the traditional trucks, and a lot i think comes from the parts end of it and a lot of mechanics dont like working on them.

I dont like work on Volvo, but I do it becouse they pay for me)

The biggest problem I have with the 1 I own is wiring. It is also a very hard truck to work on even basic service items like filters. It is a soft riding truck and it turns on a dime but I dont like driving it as it has to much sway and feels to soft to me. My driver loves it. I wont be buying another one as I am the one working on it.

Everything I've heard is that they are really nice trucks to drive.. they are pretty nice looking as well, they are built safe as volvo has always done, but like volvos cars, they are expensive parts wise.. you don't see many broken down because they are built well however when they do break, you'll surely pay! Very similar to Honda with your automobiles! Fleets get them because they last and when they break, the companies get a discount for having so many trucks so parts aren't as expensive for them. Private O/O or L/O it's a different story.

Ive had mine for a couple of years by now. Has the ISX Cummins in it. Cant complain too much. 90% of parts ive replaced are Cummins issues, and not Volvo parts.
I havent had (knock on wood) the electrical issues like some of the other guys report. Its lighter than most trucks on the road, goes up the hills decent.
I just get tired of being asked if I am Russian because I own a Volvo LOL -
BTW, Volvo will introduce Version-III Class 8 trucks. They say in 2012.

Almost everyone I know that actually likes a Volvo doesn't own it. They're all company drivers. Which means none of them pay the bills or turn the wrenches. The ONLY part on a Volvo that the mechanic who works on our trucks likes about them are they're air conditioners. Out of all the junk parts and designs they use he never has to work on they're A/C systems.
Company drivers love the ride but aren't the ones dissembling half the truck to find the engine. -
have to agree with the above, good truck but parts r expensive and they r a pain to work on. thats why i will not own one.
