Gravedigger, cemetery caretaker (2 cemeteries), monument sales, manufacturing, and installation. Did those for 17 years the last 3 as co-owner of the company. It's a dying business.

I was a senior manager in the aviation industry running an air frieght / warehousing / 3rd party frieght handling operation that did all the work for the big 3 major package handling companies plus the post office.

15 years, 200 employees and a lazy union later, the contract was terminated due to cost associated with excess wages and benefits, low productivity and a general attitude from the employees that the company and the customers 'owed' them something just for getting out of bed in the morning, and that the contracts would always be there.

little wonder all that business went to a non-union company that did twice the productivity for half the cost.

i did well and walked away with a very lucrative severance and don't really have to work, but decided to pursue the career I always wanted as a young man but couldn't do with a growing family.

kids grown, financial security assured, and an understanding wife later, I have to say I've finally found career satisfaction. for all it's bad days and frustrations, I got a good gig with an above average company, home every weekend and really making the most of my midlife crisis lol

seriously though, it's 100% what you put into it, what you make of it, and the attitude you bring to it. even though I could sit at home and collect the rents from the properties I bought with my forced early retirement, I see myself doing this for quite awhile.

fortunately I landed a gig where I can say the good days far outnumber the bad.

    Past careers:

    U.S. Navy
    Physician's Associate
    Retired Federal LEO

After retirement, I sold cars, worked in cigar stores, sub-contractor for Homeland Security, and as a consultant for a lawyer regarding post-conviction placement.

And my best job was being a full-time husband and a dad to my daughter and my dogs. :smt069
