So do you think we've come full circle in this thread
-
thats for sure, when I started this thread, I sure didn't expect it to go this long. However, it has been interesting
-
My owners manual says to let the truck idle for about 3 to 5 mins after pulling to let the turbo cool down. -
And on the sun visor of my 02 Mack it says right there to let it idle for three minutes. Even just coasting into a place the turbo is usually spinning pretty fast, any time the rpms are up off idle, not just under throttle.

Sorry. I should have read further.

Aren't you supposed to check the oil when the engine's cold?
-
Safety mandates shut down. The fuel return line heats the fuel to its flash-point thus creating a fire hazard. If you shut it down the hazard is reduced.
-
no you dont have to, it would be most acurate. You just have to let it sit off for a few minutes (10 to 15 min is best) to let all the oil work its way back down to the oil pan.

With everybody running their trucks ALL night long, then driving all day, when would it have time to get cold?
