you need to find some small ma and pa shop for training. first go get your cdl. this isnt the only training place. find another. one that doesnt give a sht about your past and wants your money an lets you figure getting your own job. then go looking for a job and some small ma and pa shop who needs drivers to work for cheap and your in.
Immigrants do it every day. they come here with no papers and get a cdl and get a job and make money. you too can do it. just keep looking.big_rig_ambition Thanks this. -
I'd look for another school if I were you. I currently am training a student that graduated from there. His skills are good and they trained him well, but the price he paid is about twice what other schools charge.
big_rig_ambition Thanks this. -
DDA def wants my money, and i figure the 5 months training time will give me an advantage over a 4 week school when it comes time to hire me.
i am going to follow a lead with the hwy department this week also.
one way or another this will pan out. -

It has a list of companies that hire with a felony conviction and how old the felony must be before they will consider you. I think Millis Transfer would hire with a felony less than one year old. I'd go on to school and get the CDL then find work with a construction company hauling equipment. A lot more otr companies will hire a felon if you have at least 1yr experience. But then again local experience often counts for nothing. But you may find your way in with a Mom&Pop and get your experience there. You know, when you put yourself down on paper, as in a resume or application, companies only get to see what's right in front of them. If you can apply in person then, you have a better opportunity to sell yourself, to make a good impression, to let them see you as a person instead of just what's on a piece of paper. You know you have a tough row to hoe but this America, the land of opportunity. If you want it bad enough you can get it. It just won't be as easy for you. But nothing worth doing is ever easy. Good luck man. And congratulations on your continued sobriety. -
yeah they want 10k...i will probably wind up paying about 4k after financial aid. this is acceptable to me. -
Thats insane. You can get your CDL for a few hundred bucks. -
Every starter company knows all you've done is get a license. You don't know how to drive. They will train you.
They don't care if you have previous experience, or 2000 hours behind the wheel.
Look for a PDTI certified school. Check the communitiy colleges. Look and see if you're eligible for state or federally funded retraining.
As far as jobs? Check out local cement companies, beverage distributors, gravel haulers, dump truck operations, delivery driver for local printing companies, look for O/O for moving companies.
Good luck. -
I worked with a trucker at a logging company, 10 years or so ago. He had done 10 yrs in the LA penal system. He got his cdl on his own. The owner knew him and and gave him a shot. He's mostly driven log trucks, gravel trucks, pump trucks and the like for local companies thru the years. But he has been working and making a living. He works hard, takes good care of his family, and stays out of trouble.

10k for a good school is okay, but it should be a good school. One that will teach you more than just how to pass a road test.
Arrested
Convicted
Served Time
Over? Not quite. So much for paying your debt to society.
If the penalty for doing a crime is doing the time, then why is there a record that prevents you from moving on in your life after paying the price. It is like they are repressing the people who have made mistakes and been caught. There are far worse people who have never been caught.
I wish you luck, you are going to need it and some perseverance.zebcohobo and runningman0661 Thank this.
