    Good luck to you Groundpounder. I'm glad you kept us up to date, anyway. They ran those C-12s and C13s for a long time, until they could no longer get them.


    I see one of the FL Classics they used to run before they went to all Petes, it's on the 2nd owner since them, now running with a belt trailer.

    Hello Drivers, Especially in this line of questions for Calodonia, or Tanker Yankers, I am thinking of getting on with either Calondonia, or Indian River, OUT OF CALIFORNIA area, I would like some honest opinion on which company to go with, I would be at the TURLOCK yard, for IRT, and I do not know where Calodonia's terminal is.....I just want to get some pro's and cons's to either company....The money part looks similiar, so that is not an option for either, unless one runs and the other doesn't.... I would love to hear from TURLOCK IRT DRIVERS, or CA BASED CALODONIA DRIVERS, or EX DRIVERS......I appreciate Groundpounders input, and hopefully he still gets these posts, even though he doesn't work there anymore...........I have tanker(fuel) experience and six years CDL truck driving, Please offer your unbiased opinion, I know its hard to do, but I am sure there are many prospective drivers, who would love to hear the experienced Tanker Driver's thoughts on these two companies out WEST.....Thank You, and GOD Bless America!

    Caledonia is based out of Caledonia, MN with smaller yards in WI and MI they do not have a CA yard of any kind..

    As posted earlier in this thread my complaint was with where I was being run for the most part it wasn't what I was told I would be doing and at this stage of my driving career I can pick and choose where I go..

    Pro's
    -first rate shop and well maintained equiptment
    -plenty of miles I was always pre planned before I got empty
    -customers with the exception of that 'ricky in Port Newark were outstanding
    -no shortage of loads, miles, or work
    -some of the nicest folks I have ever worked with period
    -they have I-pass and actually encourage you to run the toll roads going east because "its the quickest way and the tolls are figured in the rate" I was told
    -they give you the choice paper or elog, based on what I saw I'd suggest paper

    Con's
    -you will run a lot of northeast that was the deal killer for me
    -trucks were spec'd with RV motors (Cat C-13's) they are gutless pigs
    -if you don't reside in MN they won't take state tax out of you if your state has a tax, but will take out MN tax...I had a real problem with somebody else having their paws on my money when it could be in my account collecting interest until it was time for me to settle up with NY..
    -getting to the house proved just a little difficult even though I was told "we run upstate NY all the time"
    -get used to NJ, PA, and the Baltimore area because you will be seeing a lot of those places

    Overall they are a good outfit, just not what I was looking for..

    I also looked at Indian River wasn't impressed there is plenty of info on them if you search...

    Thanks Groundpounder, was hoping you didn't abort this thread totally.....I realize that living east you would probably run that way, but do you think they would pull a driver from the west, and bring him east, the whole time out?? I would do it in a heartbeat IF, that is a big IF......I run back and forth to the west.....I once worked for Gainey, out of Atlanta, NEVER got off the eastcoast, even though I lived in Florida, I ran up north, and back..........HATED it, could not wait to move west.....So my concern with this is running east, and staying there........I won't do that, I will go back and forth, and even do SOME eastcoast to help out, but not on a weekly basis, I am in a position where I can stay out for good lengths of time, but I want ot be able to stay out west, east coast sucks, I'm sorry....:biggrin_25521: I got a return call from Dean, or some other guy, could not hear it too well, saying they are thinking of building a small fleet of trucks out of Sacramento Ca., to go fill out the application, and call him after........Groundpounder, I am thinking of calling him and seeing what kind of routes I would get, out of Sac. CA.I would love a dedicated!
    Regardless, I have been there done that, I would love to get local/hourly stuff, but lately every job I go to has 25 drivers applying also!! I just want to get back to work, so I am going to" settle for"this, until things improve in this beautiful country of ours, before the #### hits the fan, with our wonderful Government screwing us all, with no lubricant!:biggrin_2551:

    The list is long for drivers that only want to run west I never heard anything about a Sacramento fleet can't comment on that....There aren't a whole lot of guys that want to run east believe me !! I wanted south was told I would be doing a lot of FL, GA, AL, and TX thats what I hired on for or so I thought...When I chatted with other drivers who had been there a while they just laughed and said "well we do go there once in a while"..

    I would strongly suggest you talk to as many Caledonia drivers as possible and see how they are being run...Also, ask that Zack calls you at some point he is the head of dispatch and came off as a straight shooter he will tell you exactly how you will be run (thats where I screwed up)....When I told him what I was told before I hired on he just laughed, take from that what you want..

    As I stated in a above post they are a good company I just don't think recruiting and dispatch are quite on the same page..

    Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you GP but this is a great no bs thread for anyone considering employment there or just looking for food grade tank info. So whats your next move GP?

    GP, Been thinking the same thing myself, just not sure what or where to go if I do give it up. Construction is too slow, heavy equipment op's are sitting aroung looking for work down here, salesmen aren't selling... Guess Florida was a bad choice to relocate to at such an early age... 53 is too young to retire, at least for me.

    I guess time will tell.... Good luck to you!
