All right, I've kept my mouth shut for a long time, but I'm gonna jump in here just once, then I'll go away again.

Why does everyone say "keep it to yourself" to people in same sex relationships, but never to people in opposite sex relationships? When I date a man, no one ever says to me " keep it quiet, now, it's private and you mustn't talk about that stuff." Straight couples are constantly talking about each other, and no one cares or tells them to hush up about their personal business.

When I'm attracted to a man it feels the same as when I'm attracted to a woman. It's the exact same feeling regardless of gender. And so I treat those situations the same. If I will do it with a man in public, I will do it with a woman in public. I know I'm welcome to talk about any boyfriend I may have, so therefore I must be welcome to talk about any girlfriend I may have.

I'm not forcing my choices on anyone else. If I'm out on a date with a woman, and we choose to hold hands and you don't want to see it, look at something else. If you don't want to talk about it, say so, and I'll quit talking to you. And if you just don't want anything to do with it at all, why are you reading this thread?

I can see the issue at hand though. Yes who cares who or what someone is sleeping with, but if you are about to embark on a 6 week journey with someone you might want to know ahead of time of the situation at hand. Just like as if a woman was inquiring about female trainers. Of course they don't have plans to sleep with their trainer but are just more comfortable spending that long period of time with someone who has the same interests.

Especially in the world of trucking. To the outside world trucking seems to be, overall, a mans world. As a trucker you know this is not true and that there are all kinds of walks of life out there behind the wheel. Including women and gays. (hope that term is somewhat politically correct)

So if you are a gay man/woman and you know nothing about the world of trucking then you are assuming that it is a mans world and you may be hesitant as to who you are going to be stuck in a truck with. Let alone they are a complete stranger. Not only that but if you are gay you don't necessarily want the other person to feel uncomfortable either. Still to this day (as you have read through this thread) there are some people out there who are not comfortable being around a gay person even though the gay person has no intentions whatsoever with having sex with their trainer. As a matter of fact I have had some gay friends in the past and they have stated for the most part they are not seeking or going after non-gay people anyway. So if this is who you are training with and they do not know it ahead of time, it could be a real problem!

I can fully understand why this person is somewhat concerned with this issue. Personally, who the hell cares who one sleeps with or what makes them happy in bed!

So to the original poster of the thread (if they are for real and not a troll) yes there are plenty of gay truckers out there. Some even make it known and are proud of the fact. If you have concerns about your training then you need to talk to someone upfront about it and let them know the reason you are doing so. I guarantee you won't have been the first to ask and I am sure you will be treated fairly and are helped out to find someone that will best suit your training compatibility.

Also on a side note, if you are concerned about the truck stops and shower facilities, just about every truck stop has private individual shower rooms. Its not like a football locker room.

Good luck! Hope this helps you.

I am quoting your post here because I wrote on my post to gaytrucker to be as professional as he/she can and to keep his/her personal business to him/herself... And I would say it to anybody regardless of their sexual life as I have.

Gay people and non-gay people do whatever they want in their private lifes but a place of work is not a proper place to share their private business with others like team partners, trainers and such.

I had several trainers and 7 team partners in the truck, males, females, one lesbain trainer who was a real B#### to me and one lesbian team partner who was ok.

My first male trainer told me on our first hr in the truck he was a happly married family man, not interested in my private life and we would keep a strictly professional relation throughout the training. I thought that was pretty nice of him.

Ms. 1nonly, I have yet to see you make a big deal about your preferences. It is a part of your life, but not the main focus of your life. Meeting you in person for the first time, one would say maybe you like women, maybe you like men, but it's not your first topic of conversation.

I'm not advising the O/P to go into the closet with it. All i'm saying is don't make a big deal out of it and likely, nobody else will either.

One's sexuality should not be the single thing that defines them and their life. Seems we talk about it 100 times more than we actually do it. There are far more important things in life to think about than whose body parts are touching whom and where.

Wanna be a truck driver? Be a truck driver. Apply yourself and be the best truck driver you can be. While you're behind the wheel nothing else should matter.

Yes, there is a double standard. But, it's no different than what we, as women deal with. Or, in the case of most, we as truckers....by that, I mean the double standard of laws we are required to obey, that nobody else on the road does.

I think you missed the whole point. "Who cares and keep it to yourself" is exactly what it means. Being professional does not mean have an open conversation about your sex life while on the clock that goes for gay and str8 people! If we work together I don't want to spend my day hearing about you Peter and Paul or you and Sally! Be productive so we can get the h*ll out of here on time! It has nothing to do with whats comfortable or accepted by others it's what appropriate at work.

    Thank you for that acknowledgement.

Nope, I missed nothing. In trying to prove me wrong, she proved me right. Thank you, and have a nice day.

P.S. I was living with a woman during my training period. Never did I mention this to either of my trainers. But they both knew anyway. Rather difficult to keep secrets while in such close quarters as a truck.
