I recently got a Cobra 148f gtl with a road king 56 mic and he already had it peaked and tuned for a 2 pill amp. Well i hooked it up in my Peterbilt but i'm running it barefoot and i know i need it peaked and tuned again but i'm afraid to take it to anyone at the truck stops on the road because of all the horror stories. I live in Florida so if anyone knows someone that does quality work down there that would be helpful. On my last trip out on the road all of a sudden the sound quit coming out of the radio. Everything still powers on and everything. I can ask for a radio check and i know they can hear me because i can see the meter moving or if i turn my portable one on real quick i hear them respond back. I took it apart and i don't see any loose wires or anything. The speaker is connected good. Every once in a while it will all of a sudden just start working out of nowhere. Or sometimes i can turn the radio off and go to turn it back on and it seems as if it might be in the volume/on/off knob. If anybody knows these radios please fill me in on some info. please. I've been reading and supposedly you can reach out with this radio up to or around 40 miles or so. I was told the maxx wattage on these after a good peak and tune is 24-25 Watts. Please any good information on my post will be helpful to steer me in the right direction.....Thanks.
What is wrong with my CB? Please help!!

Have you tried an external speaker? It may help you narrow down your problem...
-
+1.............

Could be a bad solder joint in the radio, also could be a bad microphone. Trying another microphone should be easy to do.
-
Hopefully when i find a good CB shop that it is something like a bad solder joint and then if i have to go with an external speaker i will.
-
You can get a external speaker for cheap....but is you wanna pay for someone to tell you that, that is up to you
-
Yeah i've looked at them at the truck stops and their $20-$30 and like i said if i have to i will but if it's a easy fix while their in there doing a peak and tune then that would be better.

Do you have a pair of headphones? It is the same jack.....reason why I am saying this is to hbelp you narrow down your problem. If it is this, you know it is likely a cold solder..and if you can find it, you can fix it ....if you want and willing

I'm going to also say the speaker might be bad. I had two Cobra radios that had bad speakers in them. Had another guy bring his Cobra 29 to me complaining of a "no sound" issue. I plugged an external speaker in the back and it he had sound again. Took another old Cobra with a known good speaker and hooked it up, and walla, it worked again. For whatever reason, it seems the coils on the Cobra speakers develop an open over time.

I did hook up my headphones and it works in the back just fine. So it's probably a solder joint it could be a faulty Cobra speaker because when it does kick in and start work it don't sound the best to me bit it looks like it's in really good shape and like i said it looks like it has a good connectiom but like you said it could be the coil.
10-4 on the "you know you've been on the road too long when you come home and the wife says " i ain't got no panties on" and you respond with " shuddup stupid" LOL!!!!!!
