We don't know how long you have had your CDL or what your MVR is like. I don't believe your part of the country is know for cheap insurance either. Your location, operation, MVR and years of CDL experience are all factors in price.

For OTR most new drivers will pay $9,000 - $12,000. I doubt that local insurance is much less expensive than OTR but I don't know for sure. I personally would not be comfortable without a business liability policy in today's legal climate.

Sorry I should have defined what I was speaking about. I was talking about an insurance policy for an OTR truck with authority. This would include $1,000,000 liability, $100,000 cargo and comprehensive and collision.

What I said is based on at least four posts from new driver/owners or seasoned owners looking to put on inexperienced family members as drivers.

Progressive was by far the cheapest for shorthaul Ops in my neck of the woods. May want to see if they write policies up there. If you go over a certain distance consistently they won't insure for some reason.
