Good point Burky, I just threw that out there because aside from the Gov't and DoD freight that Landstar hauls, there is very little team flat freight out there (for the very same reason you pointed out).
Vulcan, If driving team is a larger goal than pulling a flat, then it would make sense to consider pulling a reefer. I used to pull one (as a team) and there is a good amount of it out there. Plus, if at some point, you guys decide to go the O/O route, then that can be done as well (either leased to or independent).
Which Division, Van, Flatbed Or Reefer?

I Apprecieate The Responses And Will Take Them To Heart. My Son And I Did Want To Team Together, So We Are Looking Into Freight. Problemis He's 22 And Dosen't Have A Real Solid Work History Yet.

I hauled several jet engines for the gooberment when I was leased to Landstar. Million or multi million dollar pieces of freight. -
Depending on what kind of freight the company has (lots of long distance) flatbed freight can be teamed. It just gets there quicker, and you can haul more loads in a week that way.
Check with Watkins Shepherd. They have a flat/step division also.swenjj Thanks this. -
I'm bringing this back up to the top because I'm getting ready to go to Orientation at Prime as a company driver and haven't decided which division yet. I'm leaning toward Flatbed so I can get a workout in every couple days at least for my health, I've hauled reefer and van before but never flatbed. Any advice you can give would be appreciated.
PS; I don't need negative advice about Prime, I'm sold on them. -
From your posts I think you want flatbed so go for it. I dont think its worth the time or effort to pull a flat (for me) but for you it might be. Prime wouldn't be in my top 20 choices of carriers to work for but live and learn. Lease purchase is what Prime seems to specialize in and if you have read anything about being an owner operator on this website you will find it almost unanimous against any lease program. The driver will get the short end of the deal EVERY TIME on a lease purchase.
