very true. i wonder what would be the case though if a load had to get somewhere fast and conditions were bad and you say you cant go i wonder if central dispatch or someone would get you in trouble for a late load

Just use the 4 key words "I don't feel safe" and your ok. They may say your law. But it is worth it. There is no load that is that important that you need to be unsafe. Just don't say I don't feel safe if its just a few snow flakes. Run when you can and stop when its horrible.

Nope they reschedule the pickup or delivery. Happened to me in the big Midwest blizzard last january. I was stuck in a Walmart parking lot with 20 other trucks while Missouri cleared the roads.. My pickup and delivery was rescheduled.. Central doesn't want you to wreck their trucks.. Nor does a shipper or receiver want their product ruined..

Well being on the dole fleet was very short lived. Dole cut the fleet from 32 trucks down to 21. Some teams were on it for 5 years and are getting released. Good thing we were and still are in good terms with our old dm. Never burn your bridges. You never know when you will have to turn around and cross it again.

CB's are really easy to install. Basically two wire nuts and a strap. A decent CB is about $150.00 Radio Shack is probably a lot cheaper than a truck stop. You can also pick up a good used one on EBAY or something. Just make sure every few months you get it tuned. The take a lot of beating and shakin down the road and get out of whack. There are lots of little CB repair shops out there you will notice and they can tune your radio for a few bucks. Usually good for about 3-4 months.

As far as bad weather, just let your DM know if its bad. Don't lie! They know exactly where your truck and trailer is and what the weather is like around you. Visit the "War room" when you are in Salt Lake and you will see what I mean. Its usually not a problem if you do have to shutdown due to weather. Just don't wait till the last minute to tell someone. Stop, check the weather and what its like where you are headed and make a decision. If you need to stop then let your DM know. If you can continue but slow going then let them know. Another thing, don't make your decision based on other drivers. There are a lot of dumb ##### out there that will claim the roads are fine and 9 times out of 10 you will pass them in the ditch the next day when the roads are clean. Make your call on your own driving skills and comfort level. You are the one driving that truck and it is your responsibility and license! The company would much rather it get there late then not at all. Central is usually pretty good about safety. If your DM has safety conflict with you then you need to go ahead and call the safety dept. about the matter. Don't let some fresh out of college punk kid DM make your safety decisions for you. If you aren't comfortable then you aren't comfortable and shouldn't proceed. This isn't stuff I am making up, Central will actually tell you all this in orientation.

ive heard of a lot of guys turning their cb off when they are driving and just keeping it on when are stopped. personally i have one in my dads work truck and i think its awesome listening to drivers talk on there and talking with them. it seems like a good way to past time.

I just wish the bored children out there would not share their favorite music, bigoted views, sexual perversions and profanities on the radio.:biggrin_2555:
