I read that Bison Transport out of Manitoba Canada has elogs. The driver gets 15 mins after the amount of driving time allowed to get somewhere to park before the truck shuts itself off. It will not re start for the next 10 hours. I love driving for a small company. No qualcomm and loose leaf logs.
Qualcomm and E logs

Best thing about elogs is very little hassle from DOT, most officers won't even look at them.
-
1) EOBR's do not have the ability to shut the truck off, yet. Sensor Tracks has software available that'll enable a dispatcher to not only read the trailer temperature of a refrigerated load, it also gives your dispatcher the ability to change the temperature setting of the reefer as well as shut it off and on remotely.
2) Poor trip planning. Under normal conditions, you should never come close to running out of hours on the road.
3) To the driver, it brings simplicity to paper. It also means that a driver cannot knowingly run illegal.
4) No. -
Nobody is shutting trucks off remotely
Seriously stop and think about that for a second. How exactly does that work.
Dispatch: "Truck 111 is ten minutes over his drive time"
Safety: "Well cut the ignition to the 80,000 lb missle so he quits violating the HOS"
Jeez where do truckers come up with this stuff?
Yeah you cant lie on an elogger as easily. Yeah you better have a support group that can adapt and make it work. Yes there will be times you run over and take an ### chewing.kirk and CommDriver Thank this. -
Same here....Love it and dread the day E-logs become mandatory!
I will hate being able not to turn 1000 miles in a day when i feel like it or catch 5 hours in the bunk and roll again.
No more knocking out my 2 to 3 loads in 3 days and having the rest of the week off.Macneil and BAD Attitude 77 Thank this. -
Some drivers are still doing paper logs with the e logs.. I guess in case the computer goes to crap.. Feds probably don't care if your QC/e logs quit working.. if you can't prove your driving TOO BAD.
-
I can't understand why you are overcomplicating it. It's easy as pie, and if not for you, comprehension problems?
-
Maybe you can't understand because you don't use my Elog in my company. It seems that all these threads about Elogs here are only to defend their use. And it seems to me that most of you got more miles using elogs because you didn't really know how to make the best of your HOS on paper log and be legal....
-
If you run legal, E-logs won't make a difference over paper, besides the fact they add simplicity. I ran both paper and E-logs and there is no difference, IMO.
-
imo, typing on the virtual keyboard is a hassle and takes longer than regular buttons on the old qualcomm..
overall though i think its very simple and it saves literally AT LEAST 5 hrs a week in logging, editing, double checking, putting them in trp pak,etc..
i like that dot doesnt even check elogs,so i dont have to worry about getting ANY log violation, let alone a bs "form and manner" violation.
