What kind of truck to buy? Run midwest region.

Just about any fleet type spec'd truck would work fine for Midwest regional running if you are pulling general freight. Just get the best truck for the money.

A few fleet owners that I know own VOLVO'S and tell me they are sorry they bought them. Reason being, the parts cost more and getting someone to work on them is a job it's self.

 

I am guessing you are looking to pull a dry van trailer??? If so, then anything without a flat-top sleeper should do. 3.23-3.73 gears and a 10spd are fine, and don't shy away from a freightliner if it is a FLD, which i feel were some of the best trucks made in their time frame.

 

I am curious as to why? I have never driven one but I have heard more then just you say this.

 

The FLD is a great, rugged truck. Same cab as a classic, great turning radius, almost everything is mechanical so you don't have much electrionics to work on or go haywire, plus they are very basic in design and easy to work on.

I bought a 1999 FLD120 in 2004 and drove it till last year when I traded it in. It ran the first 6 years needing only the shocks and brake shoes changed out. Early this year I has a set of injectors put in along with a new radiator and water pump, then stupidly traded it in and have regretted it since. Best truck I ever owned, not to mention it was a flat top truck and pulling a dry van trailer I still avg 7+mpg with the 12.7 Detroit.

 

The 9900i is a good truck. The sleepers are setup very nice and IH makes a very rugged truck.
