I am a former driver for Central. I attended school Feb 09 in Sacramento for the 3 weeks which was decent but they pretty much tell you all the answers to the test and push you through the school. Everyone was put on a bus and sent to Fontana to do the road test, final dmv, and orientation. I was lucky to have a trainer the next day but some drivers had to wait up to a week with no money for a trainer. After training, I got my first truck, it was a Volvo, which had been abandoned. The truck was completely nasty inside, had hair oil all over everything, trash everywhere and stunk. I took it to a detail shop, wrote a com check to get it cleaned and made the company pay for it. After a few months, I switched to a KW T200O, former O/O truck so I had the 13 split speed trans, 65mph setting and it was in a lot better shape then my first truck.. I ran solo for a few months averaging 2400-2600 miles a week. I had a great DM, always returned the favors and always went above and beyond his job to make things happen. I ended up going teams with a buddy of mine who went through school with me, we just about tripled our miles, and our DM treated us like his dream team.. We made things happen other drivers failed at, recovered trucks, ran loads faster and just had a blast. We both drove our year. I left for a local position offered to me which ended 6 months later due to the budget... Nice, Right....Central is a decent company for new drivers, but I just don't see staying with them for long cause there pay is crap compared to other big companies out there.. They pressured us both for the first 5 months to go O/O but after I sent the president a nice little message on the Qual Com, I never had a call again. From what I understand, they don't hire former drivers back or driver with experience..

Never been pressured to do anything by anyone at Central. As far as I can tell their pay somewhat higher to start than most big companies. Though the are slow to give raises
-
thats good to hear they dont pressure you. being a new driver thats good to hear
-
I have a 2011 Pro-Star Limited and am looking for someone to drive for me. pay is negotiable
-
what are you hauling?

They will send you the customary messages about leasing. I got 4 before I sent a message to the owner/op dept. (not the president) telling them not to waste their time.. Haven't heard from them since.
BTW it was a returning employee that told me what I should do and if you call 4 messages in so many month 'pressured' you would be in the wrong business.. -
i have 22 days until i leave for central and everyday its getting harder and harder to sleep. im really excited to leave but i was wondering if i should just leave my computer at home? i just dont wanna bring to much stuff with me.

I took my laptop and it was worth it. Just keep it close like you wallet for safety. I kept it in my book bag and was not to much.

i have a back pack style computer back. did you just take it to training with you everyday?

Well all I'm back with Werner doing the Walmart dedicated thing from Gas City, In
First truck they gave me was a Pete 387, and it was CRAP the transmission was shot, I ran one load with it and it was borderline undrivable. I took it to the Indy terminal and left it there.
I am now in a decent Prostar, not bad, has an APU but man this truck is slow, someone governed it to 62, this SUCKS. But oh well it runs.
