Where did you buy your truck?

The last truck i bought was back in 1999.
I bought it from Select trucks,(Freightliner dealer)
It ended up being a very good truck and gave me no problems for over 2 years.
I was lucky i guess.
Buying from a private seller may actually find you a better deal but have it checked over very close by a good shop.

 

There are pro's and con's to buying from a dealer vs. an individual. I have usually purchased trucks from dealers. A couple of trucks ago, I bought a truck from a dealer, but they were selling it for an individual. Whether you buy from a dealer or individual, you need to check it out thoroughly. If you are not mechanically inclined, it would be in your best interests to pay a garage or mechanic to do the inspection. Another thing is to have a dyno and oil analysis. Most of what you need to know about a truck can be answered by having these two procedures done. Some things should be obvious, such as suspension problems, bushings, etc., Others, perhaps more inspection would be necessary.

 

When I owned one a few years ago, it came from the local Freightliner dealer. It was an old Crete Volvo, but they had all the maintenance records on it.

 

Pippinna, many of the major truck dealers can do a dyno. You may also check to see if there is an engine distributor that can do it. I know of at least one garage locally that can do a dyno. CAT, Detroit and Cummins usually have engine distributors near major cities. If you find a truck with a brand specific engine, such as Mercedes, Volvo or Mack, you may want to check with one of their dealers to see if they might be able to do it for you. Most any reputable truck dealer should be able to direct you to someone who can do a dyno for you. Anyone can take an oil sample. You can pick up a sample kit from most truck dealers parts department.

Purchased mine from Arrow. The Volvo had $6,000.00 worth of service needed in the 1st month. Arrow paid for it all. All I know is I love my truck and I'm ###### lucky the problems happened when they did.

 

I went the Idiot route, started a lease purchase thru Greatwide. Ran 3 weeks then contacted the leasing company and got them to allow me to take the truck to another company. Not the greatest way to do it but with horrible credit and little for a down payment it worked out.
