Oilfields were my second choice. Since my first choice approved me, no point in following up on plan B. Glad it's working out for you, though. :biggrin_25514:

Made it down to Dallas today. Everything I own is packed in my truck and trailer. Heading to Beaumont tomorrow, will start looking for a place to stay and will do the face to face on Monday. Really excited to get started.

My company is looking for drivers over in Pasadena,TX. We have a terminal in Beaumont as well but not sure if they're hiring there or not...either way let us know how it goes...

Will do, I arrived in Beaumont around noon. Already started the search for a place to stay. I have a line on a house for rent, but it seems like most of Beaumont isn't the greatest neighborhood. I might look outside of town like Lumberton or Nederland. Still, it's really nice down here, the weather is great today. I rented a motel room for the next couple of days until I have my face to face and can start searching out a place to stay in earnest. Things are looking good though, it's Sunday and I've already seen an oil tanker running from one company that contacted me.

I would suggest finding a place north of town. Like you said, Beaumont isn't the prettiest city in Texas. Lumberton would be my first choice and then Silsbee...hope it works out for you.

I'm a new driver thinking of relocating to TX to work in the oil fields. I've already got a company that will hire me to work there. What I wanted to find out was if the work was seasonal and slows down during the winter. Also if it does, how much does it slow down ? Thanks for the replies!

Depends on what you do and where your at. Last winter my company slowed down a little in January. It wasn't to bad. They asked for volunteers to go home early but everybody else still got 10-12 hours a day.

Well two days in and I'm kind of stuck at a crossroads. I have been formally offered a job at two companies doing the same work for the same pay. One is in Beaumont, one is in Lake Charles. I like the Lake Charles area a lot more to live in, but both jobs are two weeks away from starting because of the lengthy background checks. This puts me in a bit of a financial crunch, as I was expecting to be working by Monday. I can probably swing it, but it will take away my money cushion/comfort zone. I think I am going to take the Lake Charles job, just wish the process would move a lot faster. I go look at places to stay tomorrow after doing my physical for the Beaumont company.

Oil patch can turn off in an instant just like defense work. You need to put a lot away the first 6 months or so. All depends on demand and price. Seen them for yrs. Go out and buy $50k pickup. Shower wife with all kinds of BS. Slow down comes and they are repoed and divorced. Use common sense. And if wifey is high maintenance dump her. :biggrin_2559:
