KW. The auto will drive you crazy how high it revs. We just bought 12 Petes and I have to say Paccar makes a great cab. There isn't a single rattle in those things.
Mack or Kw

depends on what you'll be hauling. For tankers, the manual is better, but I'm biased here. I currently drive an '09 Mack CXU with a Eaton/Fuller 10spd Autoshift. 288K and zero trans problems. I will guess, your talking an '09 Mack CXU, it should have a MP8 Mack engine (not a rebranded Volvo) with a DPF emissions system. The MP8 is a great engine, if setup properly, power to spare and jakes that will put you through the windshield when empty. That said, I love mine, but I am starting to have some engine issues. Mack is fairly sure they know what is causing it and should have it back on the road in two to three days.
The only reason I'm staring at it's butt is because it's teeth are full of CATS
different software and different motor, the MP8 is proprietary to Mack and not a rebranded Vulva
it is true -
Dogs drool, CATS RULE!

C13 pussycat motors ain't no match for my E7 Mack...I'll out-pull 'em on any hill & run circles around 'em all day long.

Maybe if you can get it cranked, mack never had a motor that a cat wouldn't walk all over. Wanna know why you don't see macks on the west coast, cause they all break down around Oklahoma and have to be towed back to the east coast.
Cat is the stoutest engine ever built, don't believe it, jump on your mike one day and tell everyone you have a cat killer and see what happens, even if he's going the opposite direction he will turn around for you

I'm not trying to go up against a big displacement cat with my little 'ol Mack....be like a Ford Ranger trying to out-haul an F250. When the cat motor is of equivalent displacement, though, it doesn't stand a chance against a Mack. I have yet to come across a truck equipped with a C13 cat that I couldn't pass going up hill.

guess you never heard of a E9 V8 -
That must be the motor that never makes it to OK City. Macks are a pain because of parts availabilty when they brake. They make good cement mixers, and planters as well.
-
you obviously have never owned a Mack and that makes your post useless, I have several no major break downs no problems getting parts VERY GOOD DEALERS -
Actually I have owned 2 of them, they were ok. Nothing to write home about. But did on several occassions have to sit and wait for parts that were readily available for freightshakers.
I have had my Columbia since 07 and could not be happier currently at 496,000 miles no major problems. Mercedes Engine with a Eaton 10 speed. Very happy, light weight quiet interior and comfortable.
