I have some questions for anyone who can answer them. I am looking to getting into driving after I finish school. I already have a CDL with tankers, hazmat, double/triples endorsements on it. I have looked at SNI and they are hiring in my area (New Orleans) for dedicated and OTR. The question that I have is that I have no documentation of any of the driving that I did do because I did not have to do a log book because I never went farther then forty miles from where the truck was based from. So would I have to go through a full training course or not? Also I do not know how to double clutch gears I was shown and self taught how to float gears instead is that a problem? Any help on this would get greatly appreciated.

I suggest that you take the full training at SNI. It will only reinforce what you already know, plus you will learn what SNI expects of you as a driver

schneider will verify your employment with your last employer i've been with schneider 7 years and never heard of anyone providing logs as proof of ability or job reference. besides any one could falsify paper logs so give them a call they'll let you know whether you qualify. good luck.

and the double clutch your talking about is push clutch in when you go in to a gear and when you come out of a gear. say you pull out of a stop and go from 2nd to 3rd as you push in clutch to come out of 2nd you then let off clutch ( before you go into 3rd ) then push clutch back in as you go into 3rd. not hard but most driver test drives the trainer doesn't pay much attention. if you can drive safely thats the big thing at schneider.safety safety safety that's schneiders thing.

I emailed SNI about driving for them and the response I received was that I would either have to get three months experience or go to a driving school to be qualified to drive for them. Also I have not had a driving job since early 2009. I was working for a FEMA contractor in the New Orleans area that laid me off due to the end of the clean up contract they had. I do not believe they even exist anymore and I do not have any way to contact them either so SNI would not be able to verify ANY of my CDL driving experience. I did drive a furniture delivery truck for a few years but it was non CDL so I am sure they will not be able to use that as experience. I am currently working for Frito Lay in one of there DC's. I do jockey trailers every day and I can provide proof of that but I am pretty sure that, that will not be able to used as driving experience. What I do not understand is that why I would need to go to a driving school, when as soon as I get out I would be heading to SNI training schools, or with a trainer for two to four weeks? Can anyone please make some sense of that for me. Thanks for all the help I am just eager to get into a job that I will actually like.

Schneider does not operate a newbie training academy any more they do take recent truck driving academy graduates and put them thru a week course to learn schneider ways and then send them out with a trainer. Schneider will only take a driver with a cdl but no academy training if they have verifiable experience. if you really want to drive i suggest going thru a local training academy and explain you have your cdl a and ask if you could do an abbreviated course but still graduate. if you do that then you'll be able to come to schneider and then go out with a driver trainer. trust me being out over the road will be different than any of the experiences you've described you have. a driver trainer can show you only so much but they should give you a good head start on learning the ropes. schneider has their own way of doing things and thats what they expect. remember being an over the road truck driver is a lifestyle not a job. good luck

Ok, Thanks for all the info Im going to try to get on with one of my friends who owns his own truck and see if I can get some experience under my belt so I can move up. I'd truely like to run for Ashley, or Wal-Mart one day because I have heard some really good thing about them and both or them are located less then 40 miles from my home.

you said that someone you know has a 4 on and 4 off type schedual. i am new to the field and not working with anyone yet. i am trying to get all the knowledge i can before i commit to someone. i am wondering, do they give you diffrent options to choose from as far as home time, or do they tell you what you get. reason being, i am married with one child and one on the way, so i need to know what i am getting into before i make the commitment. thanks!

I'm anxiously waiting for someone to reply to this post. I'm interested too. I mean, do I get to choose a schedule? Or does the company say "here's what you're doing..."?
