An old friend of mine was telling me the other night that he worked for star for 2 years and left about 7 years ago. He said he busted his ##### and was pushed to run illegally and ran an avg of 4000 miles a week. The thing that I found amazing was he said the most he ever made was 40K working for them. Was he getting the ol stick in the butt or what?
Is star this bad?

First of all....there is more than one "Star"....so we don't even know who you're talking about.
Secondly:A lot can change in 7 years...especially in trucking.
Thirdly:An average of 4,000 miles a week for two years straight? Not saying it can't be done....just questioning the validity of your friends claim; and gonna go with "pretty sure he lied to you".
This thread stinks.THBatMan8, 7122894003481 and Joescheppae Q Thank this. -
Thats what I thought when he told me.

I wont ever know the real truth, but this is the company. http://www.startransportation.com/ . From my calculations that would be about 200K miles a year at around .20 cents per mile. Was that the going rate for new drivers 8-9 years ago?

He must have been getting paid about 10 cents a mile.

Sounds like a little embellishing. In order to average 4000 miles a week he would have had to had some weeks above 5000 miles.

That particular Star Transport is part of Covenant. If anything, it's worse than it was. The "blue" Star Transport out of Tennessee is dispatched out of the "White House" of Chattanooga, TN, the corporate headquarters of Covenant, same as SRT, or Southern Refrigderated Transport. And we all know what a great outfit Covenant is, especially those of us who "drive" for'em.

its likely he had plenty of 4k mile weeks, but with hometime, and weeks where miles were low, breakdows, etc he made only 40k..
i have absolutely no doubt the company pushed him to do 4k miles, thats just how it was done not long ago, industry wide, period. its stil done like that, just not everywhere at this time, companies are worried about their csa score's, and being shut down.
w/ only 2 years, the 40k figure actually sounds pretty average, depending on cpm, and freight, hometime and whether the trk broke down alot or not at all..
