I dunno Batman...looks like a grey area. We are told line 5 is for bobtail / no dispatch / go home / laundry etc. ( company policy ) Pulling an mty trailer could give deputy dawg suspicions...........

Well if you don't know any different it would be a case of ignorance is bliss however yes it does feel like a hazard at times like when you're effectively blocking a whole lane and others have to funnel around you. It could be worse however, there is another large carrier out there that actually has a 58 limit for drivers who use fuel unwisely.

 

Theres no gray area about it. Line 5 can be used when you're not 'laden', meaning under a load. 'Laden' doesn't mean 'empty trailer'. It means you have frieght.

Yes my bad, I think I was having a senior moment.

 

Venture out and see things you normally would hAVE never had the chance to see. Dont be afraid to meet new people. I recently went cave exploring I think its becoming a hobby of mine now. meramac caves, oregon caves, colorado caves they are everywhere but seriously there is always something to do if you step outside the box (cab) ps dont send all the money home gotta take care of #1 first!!!!

 

Uh, the Nashville TA isn't in the best area. I had a 34 in Nashville and I stayed up the road near Madison.

 

When we were stil in the old 98/10 days and freight was slow. sitting for a day or two doing the call back in an hour deal was the plan of the day I would catch a bus or a cab and go into the nearest town if such a thing was out there! That's why I loved doing NYC!

Who needs a freaking truck stop to do a 34?
It must be some kind of myth that a truck must sit in truck stops!
And that the drivers must be in that cab!

For many years (I posted this in another what do you do thread) I carried a 3 piece suit and a sports coat and khakis set along with a nice shirt that made the jeans look good and of course real shoes and not tennis shoes!

Screw jeans and T's all the time! This guy liked to go "live it up" at nicer restaurants and other venues where looking the part of Billy Big Rigger wasn't going to open doors!

Then there are buses and subways. We all know how to read maps if from the old days and a bus and subway route is nothing to figure out along with the old school phone book or travel guide! Now a quick click gets you all the information you need!

So why sit in a truck. Why think you have to? Why not get the hello out and explore!

The old saying is "I get paid to sight see" so you're somewhere else in the world and got there and paid to do so, so go see what another town looks like instead of just seeing the back door to the dock or the arse end of a trailer parked in front of you in that new city?
Other than exploring I always for the last 10 years of trucking had a computer, a TV for longer than that and a video tape player to keep me occupied! Books before and during the techno revolution were always great time killers! Heck they still are!

BUT the most important thing was sleep! Not laundry, food, showers or the horizontal beboop but SLEEP! Then all the other stuff with shower and food being top on the list!

I've skied both ways, scuba dived, jumped, flown and even rented motorcycles or cars to head out when stuck in the old days waiting over a weekend for that call Monday morning wait! Both Disney Worlds and almost every Six Flags and other major fun places! Concerts, ( A new picture floating on Facebook says" I might be old but I got to see all the cool bands!" and musicals on Broadway, beaches on 3 coasts, I never thought rock climbing that sane of a way to "push the envelope" or dirt track biking either!

But food and drink were the way this old GI and trucker spent many off duty waits! Then there was always times I could stop and visit family and old friends from my old Army days!

Don't just sit there!

There's a BIG world out side of that windshield!

Go! Play and explore it!

Look that gift horse in the mouth that paid you to get there! Take it up on it's offers!

It sure does beat paying The big silver bird to get you back there out of your pocket!
