For the past 3 years, I have toyed with the idea of becoming a truck driver. Back then I was only 18, so intrastate positions would have been my only option (if anyone would hire me). Rather than take that route, I took a part-time job making local deliveries in a SMALL box truck while attending college. Now that I have graduated with a business degree, the prospect of living a "normal" 9-5 cubicle job haunts me.

I took an extensive trip around the US during the summer, and thought to myself, "If I could do anything in the world and get paid to do it, what would it be?" My answer: traveling the US nonstop. I suddenly remembered my thoughts from 3 years ago, when I wanted to drive trucks. Now that I'm 21 and can legally drive OTR, I could care less about societal norms. I have been reading the plethora of advice given on these forums for some time now, and have finally decided to join in on the conversation.

I have been in communication with a couple of driving schools in my area, and have decided to make the jump to trucking and attend a CDL program at a local college within the month. From there I hope to find a good OTR position, possibly with a team mate.

Before the experienced drivers pounce: I am not in this for the money. I know there is much more to trucking than simply driving (I have studied the 200 page manual). I am in this for the lifestyle and adventure.

That said, I am open to any advice and/or correction; this seems to be the best advice forum/ knowledge base for truckers and wannabe's on the web.
