You do not have to shut down at midnight. You can drive until you've exhausted you 13 hours of driving, or you have used up your 16 hour clock. Midnight means nothing other than the date change. Just make sure you keep you log current and jot down your odometer reading.
So far as the 24 hour thing, you are correct.
I always found it easier to use the calendar day, midnight to midnight. It's less confusing that way. Drive your 13 or what ever you choose, take your time off, according to regulation, and you won't have any problems.

when I first learned logs, I found the best way to understand was to lay the pages out in a row, it made it easier to see how the hrs from the day before affected my current day. long story short forget "new day starts at midnight" just make a note of your midnight miles so you can end/start your book, and remember your "day" is simply a 24hr period on a page of paper.
P.S. yes run out your 13hrs assuming you had all your hrs at 5pm when you lefttrucker1962 Thanks this. -
Does anyone on here knows a company that might give a person a chance in Trucking who have criminal record? Person resides in Alberta. Or he's just better off just try to get on with small firm running gravel trucks?

Does anyone have any information about Kindersley Transport? They offered me a position of driver within Canada and offering miles between 10 to 12 thousand a month running solo.
Is there any other companies you guys may know who hires drivers to run Canada only? If there's an Owner Operator with couple of trucks , I'm willing to run for him anywhere cross Canada. If there is someone, he/she can contact me (Dale) at (403) 587-897-8478 in Calgary. can start asap.
I been driving since early 90's. Mostly I ran reefers and Dry vans. I also was a driver trainer for BC company in 07. Hauled autos as well for 6 months in BC and AB. willing to learn Flatbed trucking if someone gives me a chance. I'm single 48 yrs old. home time is not that important and can be given time off in any city. Once awhile would like to be off in Toronto and Calgary when possible.
I'm posting in high hopes that someone out there will help me out.
