Well I am about to start C-1 driving school in Little Rock oct 3rd, Afterwards I plan on workng for USA Truck, it was toss up between them and PAM But I live only 4 miles from the USA headquarters/ Terminals in Van Buren, Arkansas.
You could say I watched that company grow from the beginning, i even used to drag race next to the terminal, which is now owned by USA Truck. I also Worked in a Limosine Manufacturing plant a block from there.
I also have 2 neighbors that are mechanic's at the terminal so I guess you could say knowing people helps sometimes.
I have worked all kinds of jobs, Allens canning, as a sacker, worked in limo plant, Powder Coating plant, Diecast plant/Foundry and I even got my Medical Assistance Lisence and worked as a nurse for half a year, that was interesting!! , this past summer I have gotten some thing's figured out in my life and have always wanted to get my cdl, my dad had his.I have read bad post about USA Truck but after the last job i took over the summer I finally said screw it I going for it and after alot of reserch and reading online am going my route to acheive my goal, if anyone wants to give me tips or just need new freind to shoot the poo holler at me and keep the rubber side down!!!!!!:biggrin_25515:

Hey is that resteraunt downtown still open? Somthing Sisters? They make a mean omlet. Most of the other USA drivers were not much into "playing tourist" and USA didn't like us taking their trucks offsite. (I think we were only allowed to go to the hotel by Western Sizzlin) So one weekend on a 34, I WALKED to the main strip. Food was MUCH better there.

Oh and the other place I ate was the diner/buffet on 6th & Main. Nice place, looked like they just opened.

Anyway, don't expect things to get much better than Van Buren. That's HQ. The other terminals aren't anywhere NEAR as plush. The one to avoid is Dayton OH. last I heard, they still don't have running water, they have guards to keep you onsite, and even if they let you go bobtail for food, the nearest resturaunt area is "trucker unfriendly"

I used to like Roanoke, VA. West Memphis, AK. and Shreveport, LA. much better. (though Roanoke is probably the worst of the 3, I liked it though, because it WASN'T Dayton.)

    Good luck with USA though.

    RazorbackRed101 Thanks this.

I'm looking at getting my CDL soon... Just out of curiosity: why are you attending C-1 in Little Rock? What is your opinion (if any) of UA Fort Smith's "Commercial Driver Development Program"?

D'oh! You mean AR isn't ARizona? (No wonder my mail keeps getting lost!)

(and for all I know there IS a West Memphis Alaska. I've seen Buffalo, PA. And Philadelphia NY after all.)

Before the gov't decided to standardize state codes to 2 characters in 1963 (to minimize confusion), Alaska was Alaska, Arkansas was"Ark.", and Arizona was "Ariz.". Keeping the extra letters would have solved a lot of confusion over AK, AR & AZ.

Yep, I know AR isn't Arizona - AZ is Arizona. I have the envelope from a Christmas card that one of my cousins sent to me in December 2010 that is addressed to my house but has "Little Rock, AZ" on it, I contacted her on Facebook and we were both surprised it got to me when I told her it should have been "Little Rock, AR" :biggrin_2551:

What do you know, there IS a "West Memphis, Alaska". See the following for references:
