If i get paid for percentage of a load....

Then there are, hopefully very few, companies like Thomsen & Sons out of Gridley, KS (not naming names), that pay the percentage from a number pulled out their arse.

My brother drove a very short time for them. He walked when they first tried to make the drivers share fuel cost. A friend of his, that also drove for them, wasn't smart enough to quit then. However done so last week, when he finally was able to see, get proof that the percentage was waaaayyy off.

I asked my brother about the percentage pay a couple of weeks ago. He said that one major concern is how much and far they bounce you to your next load, ie; dead-head miles. If they have a practice of bouncing you a few hundred miles to get the next load, you can drive all day for $00.00. Just something else to consider.

 

All depends on the owner of the truck. I personally would not work for anything but a percentage of the gross, especially if they have you in a "hood". Just the difference in the TYPE of truck you are driving could lose you about $100 a week if they pay you AFTER fuel is deducted.

I use to pay by gross receipt of the truck. When fuel started going all over it seemed to me it was best for me and my driver to pay by the mile every mile loaded or empty on long runs and by the hour on short runs. I.e I paid him how the truck got paid. Then he knew by his hours or miles how much he had coming. No questions. I dont charge a fuel surcharge. When fuel goes up my rate goes up. When fuel goes down my rate goes down very little as they are not high enough anyway. Keep em up there. Some one asked me once if they were charging to much. You can never charge enough.

 

Now, why would it make a difference whether it is a "hood" or not? According to information given in another thread, fuel economy is the same across the board.

 

Hoods look for high dollar loads...

 

i could run percentage plus shipper paid fsc (.40 - 65 cpm) or milage plus standard fsc

i took percentage because i make more money even eating the mt miles

 

So, Let me get this straight....A hood will cost $400 more a week to run? Just because it's a hood?
