Ah yes....The economy.
Since 2008 I've had people like you telling me that the economy was gonna put me out of business.
I'm doing better now than I was then....Next!
The dreaded CSA 2010....Has had and will have no effect on me.Erick chapel said: ↑[ csa,Click to expand...
Other than being mildly entertaining, watching all of the pansies wring their hands and worry about it!
The (fake) driver shortage?Erick chapel said: ↑[and driver shortage are very large, REAL, and serious issues that have affected the trucking industry,Click to expand...
How exactly does that affect me?
Why will you not be seeing me out here much longer?Erick chapel said: ↑[and if you are not concerned about any of those 3 things, we won't be seeing you out here much longer.Click to expand...
Are you leaving?
I've been hearing this #### out of whiners like you since the 70's and here I still am (against all odds) trucking along...

It's not the 70s anymore. It's 2011 now. I don't think owner operators are doing that well, in fact, I think those are the ones getting hit the hardest cause they can't afford the cheap freight and their trucks are falling apart. I see more and more o/op broke down on the side of the freeways, and I feel bad for em cause tow trucks are so expensive. The ones that are still in biz look homeless.blackw900 said: ↑Ah yes....The economy.

Yea, I think most o/op lie about always being broke. I think sometimes those guys are stashing money away from somebody, but who?superhauler said: ↑that explains alot. I don't look homeless and I don't know any real O/O that looks homeless. Many company drivers are an utter joke. I will give you that!Erick chapel said: ↑It's not the 70s anymore. It's 2011 now. The O/O's that don't understand business and what it takes to stay in business end up gone. Cheap freight? We don't see much of that..Good freight is out there if you look for it.
The problem is these losers think "as long as my wheels are turning, I'm making money" - and then haul for a whopping $1/mile. Hmm....let me know how that works out...
Both myself and BW9 run rigs older than 10yrs. We both have proper maintenance fund accounts (MUST HAVE) and can handle repairs, especially when we stay on top of them. Many of these guys piss their maintenance funds away and then when the least minor thing happens....poof gone.
I would never trade my older rig for any of these new trucks much less the dam $$ payment each week. When you don't need to chase a payment, you have more options on the type and rate for the freight you haul.
Bottom line? - Each time there is a crap in the economy, nature flushes itself out...

To me that sounds a little more realistic than some of the o/o's ive met. Saying such things as, "i'm racking in $150,000 a year" really? were? Cause you look f'n homeless to me! Like, literally, living in your truck! Wearing crappy clothes and torn up dirty smelling shirts and pants! 50 gal of fuel get you a free shower right? I can burn 100gal a day!Hanadarko said: ↑I don't look homeless and I don't know any real O/O that looks homeless. Many company drivers are an utter joke. I will give you that!

There is no excuse for NOT taking a shower every day....maybe not every 24hrs, but every day I take one...Erick chapel said: ↑To me that sounds a little more realistic than some of the o/o's ive met. Erick chapel Thanks this. -
Not looking homeless and smelling good don't make you successful. Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer my drivers to not be disgusting dirtwads but as long as they're getting the job done safely I'm happy.

The REAL owner operators are maintaining their success. They are the drivers who actually OWN their equipment, and maintain it. Those "owner operators" you're seeing are either in a fleece deal, or they are TRYING to be owner operators, without knowing what the hell they are doing.
Hanadarko Thanks this.
