    I am wondering what expierances some of you might have with NoMex suits and respirators. How bearable is this equipment in hot conditions? What kind of company policies are in place for their use? Do most oil field workers use this equipment or is it only for certain positions?

    Can't speak for the oil fields but I've picked up hazmat loads in chemical plants where nomex was required and yeah they do get hot in the summer...Have not had to put on a respirator *yet*..

    As for policy it just depends on the company it kind of varies from place to place..

    In the patch you will wear nomex coveralls which get pretty hot as groundpounder said bur unless you get on a sour well that is blowing you won't have to wear a respirator.

    The nomex breathes good. Don't wear any clothing underneath and you will be okay. Even down here in hot,humid Houston it is tolerable. You can change out of it as soon as you leave the plant.

    By no clothing I mean jeans and uniform shirt of some sort...:biggrin_25523:

    Generally all oilfield positions require fire retardant clothing. Nomex is a version of FR. Other types exist. Endura is one.
