For years and years I have heard "there will be a driver shortage in a few years because ( fill in the blank ), and they will have to pay drivers more "
. Always some reason drivers will not be easy to find in the future.
Never has really happened. Several years ago there was a slight shortage, pay went up a little, not much.Came back down. These schools just keep giving out certificates to folks that say " I AM A TRUCK DRIVER"
. There will not be a shortage.
Trucking ain't going to change that much.

It is possible that with all these new regulations that when the economy does fully recover we could experience a driver shortage....
...or not. -
It's also possible with the continued existence of politicians the economy will never recover.
Big Don Thanks this. -
Yep, I always hear the old timers talk about how every driver used to be clean and sober.
-
Better watch out for when they add a spelling and grammar test! Hehehehehee
MikeeeeTheRedskinsWay Thanks this. -
Anything is possible Matt. Until it does happen...there is NO driver shortage.

I have not heard that. What I have heard, and observed, is the idea that illegal drugs are used more now.
Yes, illegal pills were taken back then. Not so much for recreation, but as needed to do the job.Not used just to get high. NOW I AM NOT SAYING IT WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO.
Do not start an arguement on that. Like an old timer told me back many years ago, when all we had was mostly 2 lane roads,he said he would rather know the driver he was meeting on a narrow road at 3 a.m. had taken "A" pill to help keep him awake, than to think the driver had been awake for 2 days, and might go to sleep at the wheel
, drifting over in his lane . That was the belief back then.Sad but true.
Pills were used in what was thought of then as a sensible manner. I DO NOT ENDORSE THE IDEA, DO NOT THINK I DO. That is just the way it was.
Now it seems like the drivers use drugs for the sole purpose of getting high, and they simply do not seem to care.Drivers back then had much more respect from the public than this new breed has now, and part of the problem is the perception that drivers are drug addicts. -
I wouldn't worry about pill-poppers too much, the air force has been pushing pills on pilots for many years. It must be perfectly safe then, right?
