Now were talking! This sounds like my idea of waking up as well. I also cant do the power nap thing either, I just end up feeling worse. As for the audio book thing, that would probably put me to sleep..lol Thanks for your input!
How do you not fall asleep?

I have found that I can usually run about 14 hours a day counting breaks and meal times, get about 5 - 550 miles a day 7 days a week and still get plenty of rest on my 10 hour breaks. The key for me is trip planning and making sure (whenever possible) that I am sleeping at night. I avoid over night runs like the plague.
Communication with your dispatcher is huge too. If you can get appointment times changed to better fit your habits and so forth.
Let's face it, most peeps don't sleep 10 hours anyway. -
Now in the oilfield which is what I do, things are slightly different, you can expect to use up your daily hours easily and work past a 70hr week due to the oilfield 24yr restart.Logan76 Thanks this. -
If, and its a big if, you get local mon-fri work, you get a reset every weekend. Then as long as you run legal you cant go over your 70. 14 a day x 5 days = 70 hours. That said, with local that 14 can sneak up on you real quick. -
I'll never forget years ago when I was young and worked nights... and didn't sleep much during the day... falling asleep "behind the wheel" for a few seconds on my way home from work. I woke up startled saying to myself "how did I get here?" Scared the living s*** out of me. I definitely changed my sleep schedule after that one.

no your not Forced to do anything your in the truck by yourself you are in control no one can "force" you to do anything.
That being said: To Maximize your Paycheck, you wanna run as hard as you can then do a 34 hour reset. And Repeat the process.
American Truckerwalstib Thanks this. -
Sure it can be, but keep in mind you are in control of how much money you make by how "leisurely" you choose to work.....
and your Required to take a 10 hour break everyday so there is NO reason NOT to get sleep.
American TruckermtnMoma Thanks this.
