No, you will have to get a CPAP machine that records use, use it, and download said records at appropriate intervals.

You're not kidding. Heck he may not need the sleep study if they base BMI on age, muscle mass and being able to get a good patient history.
A sleep study and CPAP are expensive necessities of the job. I would think new applicants should be more concerned with their current medications and blood work to rule out diabetes than worrying about a simple sleep study. -
I'm not worried about the sleep study itsellf. But I was told by recruiter that Pittston does not have the capabilities to do the test. And that I have to have it done before I go to Pittston.I am one of the millions of uninsured in this country and don't have $1000 + dollars to shell out for the test before I go. I told her my weight and height and she told me I was around 15 pounds over the limit and if I go to Pittston without taking the test first and found to be over the limit that I will be sent home. I've been crash dieting for 4 days now and have only lost 4 pounds. So i'm kinda nervous about even going down there. I'm a little heavy but I always have been but carry it rather well. And I really would like to take the test cause I haven't slept well in years. Just don't want to get down there and be sent home.

BigCheese, I was not aware you couldn't get it done @ Pittston. Is it possible for you to change to Springfield? Even if you had to kick in the extra bus fare, it may be worth it.
Crash diets don't work. Your body senses starvation, and clings to every ounce of fat it can. Your 4 pounds has been water. I highly recommend the Atkins Nutritional Approach. Turn your body into the fat burning machine it was designed to be. No "special" food or pills, no cost at all. All the free info you need is on their website. Best of all, no hunger.
Let me know if I can help at all. -
Thanks Man, Yea that's what I'm doing, I'm eating just the right stuff and when I should. Not at 9 or 10 at night right before bed. Haven't talked to them about going to Mo for orientation. That's really not a bad idea. Hell I would even pay the difference in a rental car. 3 day rental is only 320.00. Alot better then the 1000.00 I would pay up front here for the test.
I only have about 10 more pounds to go and 5 days to do it. I guess I should talk to the recruiter ths morning to see if they can switch it to Mo if I don't drop the 10 by Friday. That would still give the time to drive there or take the Bus. -
Sounds like you've got sleep apnea - it can very well be weight dependent in a lot of folks. Keep on the diet, and I'd really suggest that you see if you can't go to Springfield for orientation. Good luck man!BigCheese Thanks this.

GSWx good point about blood sugar and medications my bood sugar and blood presue are good no medications. I just don't fit within the parameters of the BMI index. I think using the BMI alone is flawed but it is what we have at this time.
-
BMI alone won't flag everyone, and may wrongly flag a few, but it the simplest test that will flag the most people who really do have sleep apnea. It is simply a screening tool. The handful who get flagged, and turn out not to have it are the real losers. Right now, Prime is using BMI. When it becomes official in the regulations, who knows what convoluted excuse for a test the Feds will come up with. Something as ridiculous as CSA 2010 is my guess.
-
On the bright side of things. There are those that have it(apnea) and didn't even know and now are getting the best sleep they have had in years because of the test.
-
They don't just use the BMI alone. It is one of 4 factors used to determine the need for a test.
