Going to do an inframe on my 96 379 this week using marine injectors, Bully Dog, and ported polished manifold having the 475 set to 550. Dont forget that 4 core radiator that comes with the factory 550...you will need it instead of the three core that comes with the factory 475. 5 core or bigger will require modifications to allow fit.

5 core is a waste of money a 4 row will cool as good as a 5 row. it is how many tubes per row and fins per inch thats important. the marine injectors might be to much with out the cam from what i've heard from others.

Which injectors? Your engine should already have the 58's injectors in it if it left the factory as a 475 5EK or 6TS engine. If you step up to the 800 Hp marine injectors, you'll need a bigger turbo to add enough air to keep from hurting the motor. The PDI Extrude Honed and Ceramic Coated manifold is better than BG's

Call Art at Active Radiator in Philadelphia, 800 783-4030 for a new core and a radiator shop close to you to purchase it at. One of his 4 row cores will handle 1000Hp without any modifications to install it.

I have seen many a driver/owner come in and demand his truck be cranked up in HP and torque. When you explain, the clutch, the transmission, the drive shafts, the radiator, and the rear gears will not handle it, they invariably say they are a professional and know when they can use the extra Power and when to back off.
They would get someone else to boost it and then come in with a drive-shaft a transmission, something broken they always have an excuse and it was not there fault, when the motor blows a gasket, it was someone else's fault.
Many units only get max torque in higher gears, I have seen people get those restrictions removed by the engine dealer and then cry a river when warranty will not cover repairs, to the drive components.
When they go broke it is someone else's fault.

Used to deal with the same thing at a John Deere dealer when I worked there, guys would by a tractor one size smaller and then turn it up and the complain when it was broken down during harvest.

John I can give you the name of person with what is considered a low torque drive line that has with stood the test of time behind a big motor. Eaton released the DS404 rears in 3.36 gear ratio with a restriction of 475 hp and no more than 1750 ft-lbs of torque in the 90s. I know of a truck that has built 1000+ Hp to the tires with these gears and an 1810 drive shaft with a standard tube diameter and wall thickness. This truck has had three drive line related failures in 2.2 million miles producing big power most of its life. The first two are a common problem with the RTLO18718B transmission..........can you guess what they were? Lower countershaft bearings. The third failure I'll consider as a power related failure, high gear in the transmission failed with a total of 1.8 million miles on it along with it corresponding countershaft gears by pulling the teeth from the main portion of the gears. This is a sign of the gears not being able to handle the torque being transmitted through them. Shock loads shear the teeth at the main portion of the gear and don't pull them from the main body of the gear. This truck also had both rear center sections replaced at the 2 million mile mark with no failures at this time. The owner felt that this was a maintenance issue and replaced all wheel bearing also to limit possible break downs in the future. The truck had a total of 2.2 million miles of which 1.4 million miles the truck has produced in excess of 800 Hp or more to the tires. Of that 1.4 million miles the truck has built more than 1000 hp to the tires for 1.2 million miles. In this trucks life time it's only has had three sets of U-Joints. The engine was rebuilt twice due to a liner sinking around a million miles and a liner flange cracking at about 1.9 million miles.

horsepower doesn't kill trucks, drivers do

the gentleman that owned this truck has since sold it this spring. At the time of the sale he returned it to a mildly tuned 550 hp engine. He did have a larger than stock radiator and aftercooler in the truck, but everything else was stock. He was a bulk cucumber hauler to the pickle plants for years, anybody that's ever talked to or ran with these guys will know how hard and heavy they run in the summer months during pickle season. 1200-1300 bushels wasn't out of the question for this truck to haul. Yet is has survived a heavy work load with a high Hp engine after being modified at the 800,000 mile mark of it's life to the 2.2 million mile mark and is still out there working today in the oil fields of the Dakotas

Yep, the driver doesn't have any input as to how a high horsepower truck will survive. (SARCASM):biggrin_25522:

A 1000hp 6cyl motor?!?!?! How can this be? Truck drivers will go thru drive lines like a knife thru butter!!

    sarcasm over

You know when you think about it thats only 166hp per cyl. My LT500 Suzuki is a single cyl and makes aound the high 80's hp and its just a 3 inch cyl and the tranny gears are tiny compared to the trans in trucks but I did have to get them backcut so it would stay in gear and lessin the danger of busting them.
But this truck and that quad are both fun to drive.....now:yes2557::biggrin_255:
