Sure some truck drivers are slobs who don't care if they leave their trash in the parking lot or in a trash can. Same however goes with other people too so i think that there should just be more jobs opening up for people who pick up trash cause from what I see a lot of people need work.

Anyhow, case in point and speaking of people who don't give a crap, on my way to bar last night I saw one of the William's kids (new family in the neihborhood) riding his bike up my street and the little suckwad threw his big gulp down right in the road in front of me. I stopped and asked him if he was going to pick it up and he said "your not my ####### dad?" I said "interesting." So instead of going right to the bar I whipped my cycle around and went over to the William's house. I knocked on the door and asked the teenage girl that answered the door if the dad was home. She said that she was the aunt and the mother was at work. When she asked me what I wanted I told her what had happend and she said "so what. are you the poice or something? " "Fair enough" I said and went on my way. I am wondering if this type of behavior is the exception or the norm. Guess only time will tell.http://www.topix.com/forum/city/utica-ny/TDJ766IK79ULPIOAR

In all honesty, I think a lot of the slobs are the ones who have been in the industry for a while. Some guys have an attitude that the world owes them and #### the rest of us.

not everyone is a slob. one bad apple, ya know? this is the same in any industry. there is always one that makes the rest look bad. those of us who are not slobs just have to step it up to show the rest of the world that not all truck drivers are big fat slobs who do nothing but eat, drive a truck, do drugs, and throw urine bottles out the window. even dressing the part helps. baggy shorts and holey t-shirts do not make a good impression. if we think its the newbies, then its up to us to teach them right instead of sitting back and laughing at them for not knowing or doing something stupid, or wrong. after all, we were all new to it once ourselves. give the newbies a bit of respect for starting a new lifestyle.
i will bet that one of the first drivers to complain about not being able to park somewhere is one of the ones who left a urine bottle or trash or just stepped behind the truck to pee. and then this person will wonder why drivers have a bad name.
if you think these slobs only do this crap on the outside of their truck, take a look at the inside; there is a trashcan, but its overflowing, the bed isnt made up, diorganized with the paper workold food containers just tossed.
so, if its the newbies, teach them better. if its the old timers, shame on you for knowing better and not doing it!

Well durn I have to make my bed too????? :biggrin_25523:

Ok,ok. Here is what I have observed in my relatively short time, it is not just those that have been driving a while or just the ones who haven't been driving a while.. It is a combination of both...

Truck driving attracts the good, bad and a whole lot of ugly.. I don't mean ugly as in looks.. I mean ugly as in the foul-mouthed idiots who think they are kings... The bullies of the world.... However, I have noticed more that a few 'good' folks setting their sorry butts straight lately... :biggrin_25513:

Police our own and change will happen..

I listened to an interview with a guy who took the character of "Mr. Wolf" the "cleaner" in the movie Pulp Fiction - and turned it into a buisness. He goes into a place, and cleans up the mess after a dead body has been there awhile - yuk! - what a mess!

The point is though, he gets to see how that person lived in the case of a residence. His take was 80% of the human race are a bunch of slobs living in total squalor.

Real life truckers are WAY different than the hollywood stereotype. Not all of us listen to country music (metal here). Not all of us smoke (quit for 4.5 years). Not all of us wait three days to bathe (yuck). Not all of us have our teeth rotting out of our heads (disqusting).

The reality is truckers come from all walks of life. I knew one guy at Marten who has a law degree (they didn't keep him long cuz he kept catching them ripping him off). Slobbery has always been, and slobbery will always be (doesn't mean it's okay). Keep your own side of the street clean, and maybe your neighbors will start doing the same.

Has nothing to do with "Hollywood stereotype." This guy started a business on that idea - goes into real-life crime scenes and death situations - and cleans up the mess. What else do you do with a rental property with a dead body in it? You gonna tell your wife to go get a dead body out of the house after it's been there for 30 days?

If anything it will go down hill even more with the "all about me" attitude of the new drivers.

I posted something on the Y generation and yes they get it it because the first response is normally Why. But working with this the last few years I have learned most of the time all you need to do is explane it to them or give them a reason besides "Because I said so" and they will go and do it.

I left trucking in 2004, came back 4 years ago.

I can state categorically that between my exit just 7 years ago and today, it has gotten worse. The "save time at all costs" mentality is rampant, and with the pace of society and its toys getting ever quicker, you can bet it won't improve the situation.
