From my house to work, there are two ways I can travel. One does not use the freeway and one does. If I turn right out of my driveway, the trip is 9 miles door to door. The second way is a left turn out of my driveway and does take the freeway; it also is 13 miles door to door. If the trucking company says take the first and I take the second, I will only be paid for 9 miles even though I drove 13. Add those 4 miles to all the other non-route miles and I can drive a whole lot more than will show on my pay check. It will probably also negatively impact any mpg award you might get.

Cant do that here now. I have been here for a year and never did that. I also have rarely had a problem getting my load 5-600 miles down the road to deliver the next day.

I use to do the same thing when I worked at Prime. Here is why not many companies can do that anymore: CSA2010, E-LOGS, and QCOMMS!!!!!!

    DenaliDad Thanks this.

It seems to me pretty much everything changed with CSA2010. All the changes seem to be directed toward increasing safety and identifying and mitigating risks. As a long time federal regulatory compliance investigator, I like that.

    Hey all,

Great forum and a very good read to start out with. I have been pre-approved by 4-5 companies with TMC being one of them, starting my 2nd week of class next week. I really like what I have heard from most of this forum (TMC thread that is) but there are serious gaps in timeframe, with most of the this thread being over a year or more old.

I live in ATL, GA which I have been told is a great hub to work out of with any company due to us being a major terminal area for alot of southeast hauling. I have a daughter and a Ex, in which I get my every other weekend to be with her... That is my only suggested requirement with any company is that I get home every other week every 12-14th day so I can spend some time with her (age 7). Besides that I am wide open to work hard for any company that will take me.

    Here are my questions?

    1. Is hazmat required? Necessary? I am getting it anyways with endorsements for Tanker/double/triple just to have but was wondering. Any extra in pay if you have it?

    2. Linehaul/Longhaul - Would like to hear from any drivers from ATL but willing to hear from anyone... as stated getting home on avg every two weeks will be great for me... based on % pay, can someone give me a rough idea what I can make Longhaul (most of you answered the linehaul cash to made but no much info on the longhaul) for my 1st year.

    3. Since I don't really know, is longhaul considered regional? or is that considered more of a OTR... forgive my innocence but still learning the lingo here?

    4. I am a veteran and don't have to pay squat for medical so when you guys are talking takehome pay (seems to be running from $650-$1000) is this including you taking out Insurance for yourself and/or family?

    5. Taxes - just found out that as a trucker you get to write off everything you purchase for your truck (percentage on cell phones/clothing/TV/frig/etc) but I also hear we get a tax break also on our yearly taxes... right now I am in the 25% tax bracket, do truckers get even a better tax break or percentage off compared to someone making the same salary who is not a trucker? This I hear is due to the govt thanking us for Keeping the US stock with #### to buy :biggrin_25523:

I thank all who respond in advance.... :biggrin_25514:

That should be a good start... hope to hear from all soon and keep on TRUCKING!!!!

Urine, but DO NOT TRY TO CHEAT IT! They will find out, lost two from orentation that way. Also, just remember you will get randomed and god forbid you get into a accident. If you had do anything which might cause a positive result, give it time, get clean and be done with it.

I am a newbie here and have been reading alot of good stuff about this company....I was to leave on Dec 4th for another company but I heard more bad on it than good and decided not to go with them....I am moving back home to west Tennessee and was just curious is that a good place to live and drive for this company....I figured if I could get home about every two weeks or so I would be doing good

Tnreb, you should be ok there. I worked for them a long time. If you are well within the "46 out of 52" area on the map on the website you'll be home pretty close to or more than that. I knew guys there that hadn't missed a w/end home in years.
